i just ripped my whole music collection to my computer as .mp4 files using winamp pro :( :(
Now, winamp will play the files, but RR wont display them in the directory list. I hope i didnt just waste 3 hours of my time ripping these CDs, this is very frustrating. If i start a playlist going in winamp, then close it and start RoadRunner it will continue playing the playlist, it just won't display anything. I guess this has something to do with RR using ID3 tags? I hate myself :(
Anyway to fix this? Or do I have to re-rip/convert my music to .mp3 :(
At a guess I'd say you will need to re-rip the tracks, unless you disable id3 in rrconfig, in which case it should use the filename info instead of the ID3 tag.
but heres the thing, it will find the files if i go into the directory list in RR and click artist, then go to the folder. But just straight up browsing the directory it wont show the files...
yeah, sorry it was an easy one
all i had to do was go into RRConfig and add .m4a and .mp4 to the audio file types :o
Now as long as I dont mix mpeg-4 video in with my audio files, i should be fine :)
RR will not read mp4 tags directly, but as long as you add mp4 as a music extension (RRConfig) you should be able to both see and play them in RR... just like with any other format that winamp supports. If you load the mp4 songs to the media library, then you can load the songs through the -- artist/genre/album -- entries in the directory list and RR WILL load the tags as long as Winamp supports them.
more trouble: In the new skin I'm making, it displays album, title, artist from id3 tags..... Is there any way to give mp4 files ID3 tags? I mean I know this may sound stupid since ID3 means something like "identify mp3", but i thought maybe since mp4s are here now, that they were capable of having id3 tags. I'm using ID3Tagit and it wont recognize mp4 files :(
Hmm, actually I found an ID3 tag editor that recongnizes mp4 files. It shows that there are already ID3v2 tags on all my ripped CDs. Winamp automatically put them in when it ripped the files... But now why won't RR read them? It puts the title in place of the artist tag, and everything else is blank. But when I look in the tag editor, all the tags line up just like they should. Why will RR play my mp4 files, but not read the ID3 tags from them?
This might make sense if my mp4 files were using some other format of tagging, but theyre using ID3v2 tags and winamp can read them just fine. Why is this information not showing up in RoadRunner? :(
Any ideas? And if i were to re-rip with winamp pro, what should I rip with? Raw AAC? AACPlus v1.0 only supports 128kbps, mp3 encoder v1.0 will never rip any faster than 1x, which is unacceptable. Obviously mp4 is out.
If there is no solution, consider this my formal request for full .mp4 .m4a and .flac support in the next RR version :)
I don't believe the tags on mp4 are in the same format as on mp3s.. I have never looked at them so I can't really comment on it.. RR will read ID3 tags V1, V1.1, V2.2 and V2.3.. anything else will be ignored. If winamp picks up the mp4 tags, add your songs to the winamp library and use the -- Artist/Genre/Album -- options to load the songs to your playlist. RR will then use whatever Tag information was populated by winamp from its library. This will work for any other format such as AAC, VQF and OGG (which is the best one by far). I personally have everything as mp3 since is nearly universal these days.
