Last night I hooked up some temperature sensors, then figured out how to edit the LSX skin to change the time & date display to the output of these sensors. This took a grand total of ten minutes.

Last week I put in a RadioShark, along with a phidgets relay board to control the power antenna. I set these up so that when I go into the RadioShark plugin, my antenna goes up, and when I exit, it goes down. This all took 2.5 hours, and this was the first time I ever edited a skin.

From the community that pumps out plugins and skins non-stop (not to speak of our bionic coding-slave, guino) to the functionality and versatility of the application itself, Road Runner is hands-down the best carputer solution.

Frodoplayer is a good "out-of-box" solution for novices and for those times right after you installed your system and just want it to work now. RR really does require some effort to taylor it to your own needs.

FP does a better job at this, but it lacks many things RR does. So I'm split between RR & FP, but I haven't really played around with RR.
I do not understand.... I have one playlist, I rarely play it. All my songs/mp3 files are all organized by artist directorys. In each dir they are organized by cd's. IMO it does not get any easier to play one album. I mean after all, all I have to do is browse to that cd and load it. And as far as searching for a particular song goes, do you not know who sings the song? If you do then how hard is it to browse to it if your **** is organized? I guess I do forget very often that different people do things different ways. But I must say that the key to most problems in life can be fixed by one word, Orginization.... Like my dad always told me growing up, if you put the tool back where you found it son, then you'll know where to find it when you need it again. But any ways, I think RR is the shiznit of front ends, and I've tried every single freaking one of the front ends on this site, so I think in my opinion have the right to say that RR is the BossHog baby. Good luck in making your decision, cause you are the only one that can make that decision.

I switched from FP to RR, my main reason was that RR uses winamp (which plays my songs quicker and there is a very tiny pause between tracks) whereas FP uses Windows Media player which would play my tracks but they would skip in the beginning (like a scratched cd, but these are mp3 files copied to the carputer).

As for the database, i dont see what the problem is, as soon as you put a folder of songs in the directory where RR links to music it will show that folder, and you can just name it whatever the album is named

Thats a fact. I want to try the software out. I don't want to rip out my current system to do that.

Looking forward to the mp3car community release of the unbundled software.....

You can get rid of that by using a crossfader plugin for winamp.

Lol, actually i meant its better because in windows media player it had a looonger pause before my tracks played. The tiny pause was a compliment, but thanks for the advice, where can i get the plugin, winamp.com?

umm, I have my music "Organized" just like u do. Artist folder and then the albums within that folder. I don't know, with FP and the directory mode I just find it easier to go through my music. But the more I've been using RR, I'm begining to like it much better.

I know that's what you meant, just thought I'd throw something at you that would get rid of them as well.

Yes winamp.com search in the plugins for crossfaders there will probably be a few.
