    RRnext in and RRPrev Sirius

Hey guys I did some searching and I didn't find anything to help me. I have RR using the default skin (the one that comes with the install bwm2 i think its called). I love this frontend and I am very happy with its function. Today I was searching the forum and learned that I can setup keyboard shortcuts for all the different buttons, then I figured out how to use my logictech dual action remote to control those keyboard shortcuts. This is great but I am having one problem...

When I do rrnext or rrprev in sirius I have to wait for the next station to load before it will let me do another rrnext or rrprev. Sometimes the load of the next track is 5 seconds. If I was just scanning I wouldn't care I would step through the presets no problem, but if the sirius screen is loaded some times I want to jump 3 stations and the pause is killing me. It works the same with the whole keyboard, or the controller so I dont think it is a controller issue.

    Should it be doing this?
Is there something I can do to speed up the channel load time?

Should I be using a different command than rrnext?
if so will the new command work the same on mp3s because I would like the same buttons to control both.

    Thanks

That's the right command. The time tunning a different station on sirius depends HIGHLY on the signal. I've had a SIRIUS receiver with very poor signal in the past, I returned that crap and got another one. Now, RRNEXT/RRPREV commands will QUE a command to change to the next/prev station based on the CURRENT one. So if you're still tunning, you're still in the SAME channel, so sending multiple of those have no effect unless you wait for the previous command to tune. It would make more sense for you to have commands to scroll through the sirius playlist Up/Down, and another one that you could hit "play" to tune that station. Cause really, if you're sending commands to tune one after the other like that, it's not the case that you actually care to see what's playing on those stations you're skipping through. You CAN use the same RRNEXT/RRPREV buttons to control Up/Down ONLY in the sirius screen if you want. I'm assuming you already have a play button on your control that you can use to tune the station you select.

Thanks for getting back to me...If that is how its supposed to work I am cool with it, I just figured I set something up wrong. As for the signal, I am really happy with it, it hardley ever cuts out and the updates come fast I I guess it's just something to live with.

Not to thread trail but I was wondering if there is a way to setup a cycle command so if I hit a button once it goes to sirius, hit the same button again and it goes to mp3, maybe if I get that radio shark working (I am out of power for the hub in the front of the car I need a P.o.L. for it) I would also add radio.

Sure, you can add entries on exectbl.ini that execute based on current function.. for instance:

    in keytbl.ini:

    123,"Button1"

then in Exectbl.ini (first line is executed when SIRIUS is active, the other when on Music mode):

    "Button1","AUDIO",SR
    "Button1","SIRIUS"

This is what I was suggesting for your next/prev issue.. map your button to Up/Down when in SIRIUS mode (instead of next/prev). Then you can use the PLAY button (you probably already have) to tune to the selected station. You can also do this on a per-screen basis by putting the name of the .skin file as third parameter (like the SR parameter):

    "Button1","AUDIO",sirius.skin
    "Button1","SIRIUS",menu.skin
    "Button1","MAIN"

    etc.

the 3rd parameter on exectbl.ini is a restriction parameter. you can specify a skin filename or: XM, SR, FM or MM.. SR=SIRIUS, MM=MapMonkey .. the others are obvious.. this tells RR to only use those lines when one of those "modes" is in use, otherwise it will use the line without the 3rd parameter -- but it must be below those with 3rd parameter (as in my example on the posts above)

I will start this with admitting that I dont have the most current version so if this has been fixed please feel free to call me a noob and move on...

The SR and Sirius.skin dont seem to be functioning right. I added the following commands to exectbl.ini:

    "custnext","down",SR
    "custnext","down",AUDIO_PLAYER.SKIN
    "custnext","RRNEXT"

On the audio and sirius menus the down worked fine. When playing audio from the main menu rrnext worked like it should. When playing sirius from the main menu rrnext did nothing.

    So i changed it to:

    "custnext","down",SIRIUS.SKIN
    "custnext","down",AUDIO_PLAYER.SKIN
    "custnext","RRNEXT"

Now, on the audio and sirius menus the down worked fine. When playing audio from the main menu rrnext worked like it should. When playing sirius from the main menu rrnext did move to the next channel but not to the next channel in my presets list, instead it went to the next channel (if I am on 1 it goes to 2 even though 2 is not on the presets list). I did test and rrnext does work while in the sirius skin to move to the next preset.

    thanks

First, I hope you're executing "CUSTNEXT" and not "RRNEXT" on your trials while in the main menu.

Second, that is the intended way for the RRNEXT command to work. It will only go to the next 'favorite/preset' channel when a playlist is present on the current screen. Otherwise it will always go one by one. You can add a playlist "hidden" onto the main menu if you'd like and that would make the feature perform as you'd like it to (Actually, I just looked at it and that needs a little tweak before it can work -- I'll post it on next release).

The main issue I see with this is the fact that if you don't see your preset list, you'll think that RR is just jumping around stations .. but if you only have one preset list, you can accomplish this function with the SRTUNE and SWITCHBUTTON... or you can jerry rig it like "SIRIUS||RRNEXT||EXIT" and it will always work and will always "FLASH" the sirius screen when executing the command.

Yes I am executing custnext on all the menus. I dont think I want to use SRTune and switchbutton because then I would have to program my playlist (which changes from time to time) into the exectbl correct? As for the sirius||rrnext||exit that may work but I am sure the screen flash will drive me crazy and then custnext button will always switch to sirius. If I was on the main menu and pushed custnext while listening to mp3s then the command sirius||rrnext||exit would load sirius, change stations, and return to the main menu...So maybe that wont work. I think I may need to live with it while I wait for an update that would allow me to add a hidden playlist on the main menu....Another idea that may help (I know add something else to your list...) is having the SOURCE available to commands. So if the source was sirius then you could use the chained command idea above...It would also be helpful for me later on when I try to add an lcd below my monitor so that when I go to change sources it can tell me which one it is on...Maybe I can look into the switchlabel command but I think that is going to cause problems if I just from screen to screen...

Anyway, Thank you for being so supportive. This truely is a nice frontend. I hope to be up to speed soon, I am not the greatest at graphic so I dont see myself making a skin but I do know programming...Maybe once I learn a little more about your functions I can help add some new modules.

    Thanks
