    Help with playlists

Okay, I admit it -- I'm stumped. I read the FAQ, I've been playing with all of the buttons in RR...I can't get the music features to work.

What I'm trying to do is figure out how to choose an MP3 song to play and also how to create a playlist. I click on the MUSIC button in RR, then I select the ICON that looks like a piece of paper. The next screen shows my folders of music. I double-click on one of the folders and I then have a list of my MP3 songs. There is an icon with a down error pointing into a icon that looks like an in-box and it also has a plus sign -- I'm assuming this is the icon to add a song to the on-the-fly playlist? However, when I highlight a song and then click on the icon I'm taken back to the on-the-fly playlist screen but no song appears anywhere.

You would think this would be intuitive but its not. Any hints to get me going in the right direction would be appreciated.

Is Winamp installed, and RRConfig points to it ? This is in the requirements FAQ -- the installer does NOT come with winamp.

Try loading a few songs in winamp first, then load RR and see if those songs show as your playlist.

    Guino,

I had winamp installed. After I created a playlist in winamp stand-alone then things in RR seemed to work better. I was able to see songs and add them to the current playlist.

However, it doesn't matter if I click the in-box icon or the in-box icon with the plus -- both result in every song in the directory being added to the playlist. How do I add just one song in the directory to the current playlist? Then how do I save the playlist and assign it a name?

It would be nice if there was something that documented what the icons in RR are supposed to do or if you moused over them they would have a pop-up description of the icon's function.

making documentation is almost impossible since every skin has buttons with different icons and in different places.. you'll get used to it though..

the inbox icon loads the selected folder (all items) into the playlist -- clearing the playlist first. the one with the plus singn doesn't clear the playlist (simply adds all items). There's a +1 button that adds only the selected item to the playlist. there's a drive button on the audio player that lets you save your playlist (just enter a name on the OSK and hit enter) -- it saves to the path selected in RRConfig (playlist path).

    Guino,

Ah...that helped. Okay, I have all of the stuff you mentioned above working. One last question, what do I click on to show my available playlists?

What does the SCAN button do? Obviously it scans something....????

Hmmm, well it seems that after I used the media library editor in winamp stand-alone that things in RR are once again looking better. You might consider putting something in the RR FAQ mentioning that some configration needs to happen in winamp stand-alone before certain features in RR work correctly.

Thanks for your help today. I believe I've got a handle on this part of RR now.

Your playlists will show in the audio browser when you browse the location you setup in RRConfig for your playlists.

The scan button will scan the first few seconds of each song until you press it again (much like a scan of any headunit).
