Delete skins you do not use is there any performance/memory increase?

So my mighty Epia MII 10000 is showing signs of overwork. I dont blame it as I have so much stuff going on in RR that any PIII powered computer would start to choke.

I would like to know if any of you have found some tweaks or hints/tips to get some cycles back.

    Some questions on performance

    1. Indicators, I use a lot of em from GPS, to online to CPU information does this affect performance?

    2. Skins the more complicated such as load/unload external programs, large jpgs or number of buttons/commands per skin does this affect performance/memory?

If you delete skins/jpg's you dont use will this affect RR at all?

    So I dont use the

    Mappoint
    Destinator
    Phoco
    etc, etc skins and jpgs

If you clean up the skins you don't use will it give a bit of a boost to CPU or memory?

No, as long as don't load the programs associated with them.

RR Updates information on-screen every 1 second (exactly to prevent performance issues. Indicators, sliders, labels all fall under this 1 second update. Scrolling labels take a lot more of resources and have their own processing requirements and updating timers. Deleting files (Skins) from your HD will definitely not make any difference. Also, having/using a skin that has screens you don't use, makes no difference -- RR will only load/use the screens you ask it to load (the ones you click to use). Any screens that are not the foreground (hidden screens) are put on hold and are not updated until you use them -- they're using memory but not CPU -- if you want you can limit the number of screens to keep in memory via ini setting (normally just makes performance worse, but it helps on some crappy/cheap video cards). If you're worried with performance/memory, you should use skins without any flash (quite intensive -- comparatively speaking). Also, making your skin files use the same image for EMPTY and OFF layers can improve both memory and performance. Also, smaller resolution skins are both faster and more memory efficient. Lower quality JPGs can also decrease processing time on loading screens, and Bitmaps will definitely increase the load time from disk (bigger files).
Having the propper video and motherboard drivers (i.e. Via-4-in-1) can make a whole lot of difference in performance for 2D graphics (used in RR). At last, but not least, making sure you're not running a whole lot of applications on the background (taskbar etc), can make a whole lot of difference as well.

I honestly don't understand what a lot of people complain sometimes though, I write and test RR on a Penrium 1.2Ghz Centrino, and see no noticeable difference from running it on my carpc (P4 2.2Ghz).

u could try compressing the images to a much smaller size.. u may look quality but may improve performance.. also stick a higher ram in..

I found the problem, well it's one or both. Turned off the scrolling text and pulled my DLink bluetooth adapter. Now it runs at 40% load. Will reinstall the bluetooth on the weekend to see if it was just the scrolling letters.

See.. the scrolling text should use so little CPU that I'm almost certain you don't have either the propper video drivers or the propper Motherboard drivers installed (VIA 4-in-1 etc). I think even on my pentium 200Mhz with Win98SE doesn't use up all that CPU load as yours does.

Thanks G, I will check out the drivers as well. Strange though I have been using the same drivers for almost a year without issue. I think its the bluetooth.
