Could i get help with a custom delete button?

Mornin gents... I'm one of the guys using the Centrafuse blue skin for RR. I have gotten pretty comfortable with it and it suits me well. I also have a rather large outdated MP3 collection. I find myself hitting the next track button on random play over and over which tells me i need to start deleting songs.

I have never modified a skin, nor wrote code, so when I say help, I'm asking for someone who has done it before to walk me through it or just deliver the whole mod in one easy to install step

I would like a button (or maybe the pressing of two buttons at the same time) which will delete the song from the LIBRARY... not just from the playlist, but from the library, deleting it from the hard drive.... FOREVER! (Damn ABBA)

    Any advice?

No Pain, No Gain.. The command you want is DELETEFILE, but you'll need to edit the skin to make a button for it and you'll need to have a confirm.skin popup with two buttons "ENTER" and "ESC" to confirm/cancel the file deletion. This is a multiple step process unless someone hands you pre-edited files .. (I would but I don't have anything edited for that) .. so the advice is you should start reading skinning tutorials and txts so you can customize everything the way you want.

    Wink

Here is a simple Confirm.skin files you can use.
Just put a button on the Audio_Browser.skin and call it "DELETEFILE"

Just an encouragement.... I know nothing about programming but after spending just a little time looking at skin files you'll be able to edit them pretty easily. Really probably the harder part is getting the right original graphic file so you can edit a graphic and make it look good, the commands are pretty easy.

ahh, and further research shows this is not possible through the standard playlist. You can only delete while file browsing.

What would it take to delete from the playlist screen? I understand there could be issues if the song is being played. In that case i would have to tap on the next song in the list, play it, then highlight the old.

What if we went about this differently... What if there was a button that placed the current file name into a temp document... at any point we could hit a delete button that will delete all of the files referenced in the temp directory as long as the song is not being played?

Yeah, I want the same as you…to be able to delete the currently playing song. I too found that the current function only works from file browse. I then thought of making it log the filename for later deletion (just as you did). The skin can’t do this, one would have to mod RR and there just isn’t enough need for it.
This could all be done through a 3rd party program though. Given a program that does the logging one just needs to be able to pass it the file name from the skin. I know how to execute such a program but not how to pass it the file name. Ideas?

a more easier solution would be to manage your media library on your desktop computer. If you have a usb hard drive i would use that load up the music files, go to your desktop and use regular winamp, wmp or whatever and listen to the music and delete what you dont want in one swoop. Go back to the car and sync the library. done. This type of activity really should be done on a desktop anyway. You can prob go through your whole music collection in a hour or two and delete all the crap u dont want. But on a carputer i would guess the time required to do the same thing would take much longer, days, weeks even.

Ya, I always do it this way but sometimes there is song on the drive you really don't want to hear anymore. When it comes to a song like this then it would be nice to have a button on the player and just delete that song. Could be done with AutoIt. Since you can't delete the song playing you have to do it like this.
Click DELETEFILE, goto next song, delete prev. song, play.
    This could work.

yeah, i understand that for one off songs you want to delete. Maybe a single track from one album thats horrible or you have grown to hate.
Maybe if there was a command added to RR (this seems like the best option) that would just mark the file for delete, and RR would delete the file the next time RR is launched or whenever that track isnt loaded.
