    Newb Question

I have searched and searched, read most everything out there and I guess my question is too specific. Not expecting to to be spoon fed, but flamed probably.

I am about to set up a dual monitor system. I understand that I will need to upgrade my video card to a dual out or get a second card. I plan on running a 7 inch Xenarc or Lilliput with a touchscreen as my controller for RR. Most everything will display show on the 7 inch. RR audio, DVD, Nav etc.

My plan is to buy this headunit from japan. It has AV in and outs. Has most everything I want in a head unit plus the 6 in screen.I have tried to do my homework.

MY PLAN, (and delemma), is to run only the Visualations from winamp on the second screen. I have seen the FAQ on embedding apps, resizing skins for vis. etc.

My question is, Before I invest nearly $750.00 in this head unit, Can anyone see a problem, with setting up the second monitor, with AV input only, and embedding the winamp vis only in the second monitor?

    thanks
    Cliff

1-Visualizations will only work while on MP3/Music mode.
2-You'll have to use the "Other Visualization" option in RRConfig and define the new area of placement for the vis plugin in each screen you wish it to run in.
3-You can test the results of this work on a single monitor. Just run RR on a 1280x1024 res for instance, and have the vis plugin display at position 800 (RR will be to the left of it).

Still, the best thing for you would actually be to not embed the VIS at all and just position it to start/stop at the right place on the 2nd screen, like x=800, y=0 (on it's own).

Although I think your biggest problem may be when it comes to setting up the 2nd screen as an extended desktop -- an option found in most cards with video Out, but most small LCD screens I've tested are not detected by the cards (unless you plug a Circuit/VCR in between for instance).

    Thanks so much.

No problem. Just one limitation that I can live with.

2-You'll have to use the "Other Visualization" option in RRConfig and define the new area of placement for the vis plugin in each screen you wish it to run in.
Great suggestion. I would not have thought of that part.

Another thing I would have missed.

Still, the best thing for you would actually be to not embed the VIS at all and just position it to start/stop at the right place on the 2nd screen, like x=800, y=0 (on it's own).

    Will Do.

Is there an any other alternative, that would be be easier, more tried and tested, like a second xenarc or lilliput? I am not married to the japanese head unit, and not out the $750.00 till I clear this in my mind.

And thanks for such a fast answer. I have seen so many of your posts, You must live here.

From what I can tell this depends solely upon the choice od screen/monitor and choice of video card. I know ATI card can be a ***** just because they "autodetect" video devices plugged in instead of simply sending the output all the time. I wish I had a bunch of LCD monitors laying around to test and give you a better answer.. but I don't.
