    native GPS and Earthmate...

Okay I will start by saying I have not slept in like 2 days (work is kicking my ***) so if I am doing something stupid feel free to tell me.

I have an earthmate gps receiver. The software it uses allows up to 3 different output ports with either raw, nmea or none for the data type. I setup 2 of these ports and told rr to use one (port 7) for gpsport, and IG to use the other (port 3) both are using nmea as the data type. IG can see the gps and lock in, but rr always say 0 for the values. Do I need Mappoint? I have the gps type set to external...Does that matter? I have read that if I set it to MP it will work, but that had no effect. I am using the latest release.

    Thanks

Your setup is correct for Earthmate but redo the earthmate port splitter software and set it up for lower port numbers. Then in the RR.ini file set the GPSport= to a lower port number like 1 to 4. If you embed an external GPS program you can set the GPS entries in the RR config for Mappoint and path the program in those entries.

RR supports port numbers from 1 to 99.. my best guess is there's something wrong with either your setting or the port, try swapping the two (IG on 7) and RR on 3 for instance, to verify there's nothing wrong with the port created by your gps.. other than that, you can open RR.INI and make sure you have gpsport=X (not zero).. it shouldn't care what setting you have for the GPS mode, but some RRConfig versions had issues with saving that port number.

I got it kind of working. For some reason the port was set to a really weird speed (probably by something else) so I fixed that and it started reading it. Thanks for the info guys.

Now off to the clocks thread to find out why that isn't working now that gps does....
