Sorry...to clarify, do you want me to try another option such as change the skin name or use an external OSK?

I had similar issues using OSK's for Road Runner, and while I had my CarPC in the house, I used the M$ OSK, which worked well for all screens. Using it in the car however was a nightmare as the buttons where to small. The alternative was to use the built in OSK's, but they generally work as a full screen keybopard, and I wanted to be able to see the fields I was typing into.

I trawled the boards, and found a couple of options, Uboard, and Virtual Keyboard, so I decided to re-skin the Virtual Keyboard to match the rest of my skin. My suggestion was to have a go in using one of the keyboard style in the three zips below.

Virtual keyboard is an exe program, which when you fire it up, puts a toggle button on your desktop. The button is contained in the file KBIcon.jpg. You can control the position of the button in the ini file (KB.ini).

I have changed KBIcon.jpg to be the same as part of my skin, and when I load for example the web browser skin, I have a button my menu skin that reads:

    B30,588,204,192,87,"RUN;skins\1Black\Keyboard\Virt ualKeybd.exe||LOAD;www.skin;!MozillaUIWindowClass;C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\Firefox.exe;Firefox"

This runs the keyboard app, and loads the skin, then embeds Firefox.

To use the new keyboard, I click the left mouse button or touch the button on my touch screen. To close the keyboard app, I click the right mouse on the button.

My suggestion was for you to change your skin, and try this out. You have three keyboard styles to choose from, and you could even try and skin your own keyboard if you wanted.

    NeoMatrixJR:

Did you ever fix your problem with the OSK in the Web Browser? I am having the exact same problem that you described. It only would register the last letter I would type. Any chance Guino you know what is up with this?

haven't messed much with it. I have a bluetooth pda keyboard that I usually use...it would just be nice to have the OSK when I don't want to dig that out for typing one or two words.

The above files work in windows, independantly of Road Runner, just unzip 1 of the above zips to a directory and fire up VirtualKeybd.exe to try it out. If you use a Touch Screen these are great to use. My keyboard doesn't have the F1 - F12 keys, but the other two do.

    cheers

    Is possible to reduce dimensions?

Hi to all american friends, I would like to know if is possible to reduce dimensions of osk keyboard. I tried to modify KB.INI but I couldn't see a 50% reduced keyboard on my screen. Maybe I have to reduce the image of the original keyboard?

    thanks for any answer

    Hi Sullivan,

the buttons are mapped by pixel over the image, so I don't think it is that easy. Their is an option in the ini file for size, but I never managed to get that working.

If you resize the graphic of the keyboard, you will need to remap each key entry as well.

Not to beat a dead horse or anything but I'm looking for the perfect OSK. The shame is I REALLY liked the one built into RR until I tried to use MS Streets and found out that there are some focus issues. This was quite some time ago and now I've found some alternatives but there's always some kind of drawback.

Right now I'm using the built in Windows OSK after learning about a trick on how to resize it.....Thank you to whoever figured that out!! I would use Virtual keyboard which is awsome but a bit complicated to skin (jpg editing is time consuming) not to mention the whole right click thing. I've seen the scripts and applaud SilentAdmirer, kpjuk and Mauri for all their work on making it as user friendly as possible but if the hide button could be configured to close the app I'd be willing to do the jpeg editing to fit my skin. Well, technically it could be coufigured but then you wouldn't be able to move the keyboard since the script goes by x,y coordinates.

Does anyone know of any others? One that is skninnable, as functional as VK and Windows OSK, and can just shut itself down after hitting "Enter" or "Done" or something?

How do you resize the keyboard? This keyboard is awesome for a touchscreen.
