That sounds quite slow. I use hibernate with Road Runner and it takes about 28 seconds from being off to playing music and showing the screen.
I just thought I would post this hear and see what you guys thought. I use an older PC desktop at home to test some of these things before putting in the car. The specs are:
PIII 733 with IGB of RAM
My Car Specs are
x Logic Supply 3688 Mini-ITX Car System
- Memory: 1GB PC2100/DDR266 RAM
- Monitor: Xenarc 700TSV 7" TFT LCD Display VGA Touchscreen - Black
- Power Supply: 90 Watt M1-ATX Intelligent Automotive Power Supply
- Mainboard: EPIA SP13000 1.3Ghz
- Hard Disk / Flash: 2.5" 40GB Fujitsu 5400rpm
- CD / DVD Drive: Panasonic CW-8124-B Slotloading CD-RW / DVD
It takes about 2minutes or more to have the car pc completely load and about 30 secs to have it load with the PC.
Are you guys seeing the same type of results? The total boot time is much worse in the car. Note that I haven't done any tweaking with either machines. If you guys are getting faster load times with RR what are you doing?
I have browsed the optimization forum so I know of some of the tweaking you need to do and also know to disable some things in windows but I'm just wondering if by default there are other things you guys are doing to get faster load times.
Thanks

I take it that's just loading of RR? That's pretty fast. What MB are you using?

That's from my machine being 100% off, to playing music. I'm just using the VIA M10000. Latest BIOS (edited with a new BIOS image), everything that could slow it down turned off. I can even make a video of it starting up... it's very quick. By the time I get to the end of the block from my driveway it's already playing music.Originally Posted by Civic03
That's nice. What did you turn off? I have the latest BIOS on my machine too. Well at least from 6 months ago.

Anything that may delay it in the BIOS, like RAM checks, floppy seek, all of that crap. It gets to the Windows resuming from hibernate screen in around 8-10 seconds. The remaining 10-20 seconds are while windows loads.
So you have it on Hibernation?

Lol, I thought u mean't it took 28 seconds just to get to that hibernate screen. My pc takes about 10 - 14 seconds to get into the RR interface from hibernate... although im using it on my AMD Athlon 64 FX (AM2) w/ 2 G of Ram and a 20GB HDD lolOriginally Posted by LiquidKernel
Well I spent some time this evening tweaking things a bit and was able to shave some time off. I can now boot into the OS within 30 secs or so. It appears that the longest load time is WinAmp and I don't understand why. I'm using 5.1 and it's taking about 28 sec. alone to load up. Anyone know why it's taking so long to load WinAmp? The whole system now loads in less than 2 minutes. I need to do more timing on this though.
One other question for DVD are we still suppose to use the movie file or does RR now have it's own built in player?
