    Talking Skin Editor Objects.txt update

    Hi guys,

Having created the new RR Help file, I thought it was about time that the Skin Editor was brought up to date. So, I have been through the new help file and added the missing entries into object.txt. To update your skin editor, just copy this file into your skin editor directory. I would advise renaming your copy of objects.txt before you do this, to give you a backout root should this not work for you.

It seems to work ok with my copy (v0.3.019).

If you spot any entries that I have missed, post the missing entry here so we can get this up to date.

Is it possible to get this version into the download at some point, which is where it needs to be (once its checked).

    cheers

do you know how to add these items to the list

    Code:
    /POSX=
    /POSY=
ive tried to add them myself in the past but was greeted only with crashes in the skin editor

gets to be a pain to have to edit each file by hand for any screen thats loaded with MENU commands as the editor removes those 2 lines whenever you save.

the skin editor code needs to be edited to accept the special comments.. a "properties" page should probably be created in the editor for those special settings.

Yea, there is some sort of problem somewhere, as when I open the BLue Devil skin, with the new objects.txt in place, the editor crashes with a typemismatch error 13, which unfortunately is pretty vague.

Hello all, Sorry the skineditor hasn't been keeping up with guino. He is too quick. I was thinking a major rewrite to the editor. Currently if there is an object that is not in the list it wont know what to do with it. Also / was a comment line in the begining now guino has added /posx= /posy= /discardable and who knows what else he has planned. Comments get deleted in the current version.

A possible fix would be too create an unknown object ( or something to that effect ) that would just be one line of text that could be edited from the editor.

I really wanted a properties box on the side but i dont think the time to create it would be worth it.

So um the reason i havn't worked on it latley is because i started the much wanted undo/redo. And there are a lot of things that need to be fixed to get it to work. I was going to go back a version and release the long object names fix (ie BMusic instead of B01 )but i dont think i saved that version before i killed it with undo/redo. Not that i dont have the source from the last release. just i made some good changes in between that i never released.

So, Anyways, when i get some free time i will try to get back to this. I was trying to get quicktype finished then i was going to get back to RRSkinEditor. But i dont even have time for that.

kpjuk, thanks for the file update. Mayeb liquid_smoke can put a link to this thread from the skineditor tutorial. Then if people want they can use the objects file from here.

JohnWPB, I think that error might be due to the object names. Like i said i had a fix for it. Check the skin files for names like BVideo instead of B01. This may be your problem. Or you could be running an old version that had a slider problem.

you can add this to the objects.txt file

    /, (INC)
    *Include,INC,Include file path

This allows the skin editor to recognize the Include definition

INC,myfile.txt that you use to define a list of definitions you can use in each .skin file and only have to update that one file to make changes to all .skin files that reference that file.
