Noob Question

Hi all, first off i just want to say how helpful this forum has been, anyway, I just started putting together my first carputer last week. Its pretty much all together and almost ready to be put into my car. Im starting to install all my software on the computer and Im running into a problem. I have a Bu353 Gps reciever and i wanted a free navigation program so i found roadnav. I got roadnav to install the maps and it works pretty good, however when i try to open it in roadrunner it opens a new window. Is there a way to open it in the same window? Also roadnav is a little slow, can anyone recommend any better freeware navigation programs. Thanks in advance.

I am surprised you found any type of free navigation software. I doubt there is anything better.

Next, read the RR FAQ regarding embedding a program into RR. For a navigation program, it is quite easy. In the RRConfig tool, you need to specify the path for your navi program, and also, specify the window name.

thanks, is the window name the text that is on the very top of the window? because in roadnav it says your location there so it will always change

Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. Sounds like for RoadNav it isn't. There are ways to figure out the name of the window but I forget right off the bat how to figure out what they are. Probably that thread will give you a link to a command or app that shows the name of all open windows.

I don't remember if RR requires an exact match. If the begining stays the same, say it says "Road Nav - S 5 Freway" it might work. You should read the Faq, it should tell you what you need, and how to find the window name.

i jsut imbedded roadnav. first program i ever imbedded!! although it was cookie cutter easy thanks to guino's hard work. go to rrconfig, choose the gps tab. set the checkbox on the left to external. click on the filepath and find your roadnavexe file, should be c:\programfiles\roadnav\roadnav.exe if you didnt change anything during setup. in window name, its just roadnav. even though the window name changes based on location, it always starts with roadnav, and thats enough for rr to get it.
