XM listing error duplicates - again!

I could swear this problem was covered somewhere a long time ago but I searched for hours and can't find it. I don't know just what caused it to happen because it worked fine a month ago but I haven't listened to XM for a while and didn't notice it.

The channel numbers and xmart and other field data are ok. But the listing shows station/song info duplicated over many lines by random other station's data. Haven't found a pattern here. Signal strength is great and I've replace the cable with no luck. Thought is might be the skin but they all do it. HELP!!!

is that happening 100% of the time ? or does it update the list correctly after awhile ?

my best suggestion is to try a different software, if it works there, it could be an issue with RR, if the same problem happens there, the problem is not software.

    XM Problems

You have narrowed it down a bit, by saying it is happening on different skins on your system. But I also do not think it is a Road Runner problem, so that narrows it down further to the XM software.

You didnt mention what hardware you are using. If it is a USB device, like the XM PCR1000 that I am using, I would try uninstalling the XM software, and removing the device in device manager (While plugged in so it shows up) then reinstall all software, and plug in the XM receiver when asked.

I have been using the XM PCR1000, and have not run into this problem before.

I hope this helps a little bit, but it will take narrowing it down forther, and even further to figgure out what is causing it.

EDIT: I see you are using XM Direct from your Sig. I'm not familiar with it, is it USB? If so the same procedure MAY work.....

I have the USB XM Direct unit (which has worked very well for over a year) and there's NO other software that I know of installed on the pc for it other than RR. I don't see it listed in the device manager (although I DO see com2 listed there and RR shows my xmport=2). What is there to reinstall?

I was asking you to actually try and install some other XM software and run it (outside RR), for the simple reason of testing the hardware and/or defining if it's a software or hardware issue. The only reasons I recall seeing the XM tuner returning repeated info was when it wasn't activated.

When you have the USB devices showing in Device Manager, unplug the XM unit. Watch to see what one dissappears. Now Plug it back in, and when it reappears, delete that device. Now when you unplug it for a few seconds, and then plug it back in, windows will reditect it, and resintall the driver. This may not help anything, but it will "flush" the USB driver at least, and COULD possibly fix it. It's just one thing to try.

As for what Guino saidm that is your best advice. Try the software that came with the device, and if you get duplicated there, then you know it is not Road Runner. If you do not see the duplicates in the XM software, but still do in Road Runner, then post back here and hopefully Guino can take over from there

    John:
I'll give that a try, thanks.

    Guino:
Although it may ultimately be a hardware problem, I don't think it's activation related. I CAN get some of the stations to play (the ones that don't get duplicated over). The XM Direct doesn't come with any player though. I think Frodoplayer may still be around somewhere, I'll look around for it. There are a handful of players out there but I think they were mostly designed for use with the xmpcr.

Problem finally solved. Turns out it WAS activation related
Odd thing is that it DID get some stations (unlike the channel 1 only symptom pre-activation). I bought an extra XMdirect, checked the cable with a meter, and even put in a whole new pc just to narrow it down and it always failed. I finally called XM and asked them to reactivate. This didn't help so I called them back again and asked for a supervisor. Turns out there was some sort of block put on my account because they applied my last payment to the wrong radio and they shut my radio down! They said they couldn't reactivate it for 24hours because of the block but I had to call back twice and finally someone there got me up and running again.

XM is so screwed up in their administrative department. I have three XM radios, all on annual payment plans, but they are on different date expiration cycles. They say they have no way to combine them into an account with a single payment cycle.

that's screwy.. glad you got it going though... anyway, I remember seeing that "kind" of problem when the device wasn't activated.. I paid $500 for lifetime membership with SIRIUS so no more bills, charges or screw ups for me.
