I run VirusScan Enterprise aka MacFee, so the moral being dont rely on free software if you dont want to deal with a few hassles.
The above message was part sarcasm, part truth.
lol hmmm well I don't want to get into a big AV fight/discussion, but I will say that the only software where my system wasn't compromised was with AVG. I've tried all the rest (save NOD32) and I'm most satisfied/protected with AVG. Granted I use their pro version... been running it on all systems I build now for the past 2 or so years. With Norton/Symantec/McAfee, their updates came out a day late and a dollar short and their scanning systems weren't the greatest. Had a few things slip by years back with them. Since AVG... Notta, nothing... and lets just say.. my one system... it's a downloading fool.

Back to the RR_Updater... anyone try it out yet? doing better? Let me know.. Cheers

@SangreDeThor the new FTP software working out better for you? Haven't had a change to do what you were asking yet... I'll talk to you later about it. Heading out to work soon.

    Cheers all

So true, that last part. Norton/Symantec will remove windows with it, or leave an ungodly amount of crap on your system that will continue to screw things up. To do a full uninstall you end up having to go in manually to delete things, edit the reg, etc...
    Cheers...

i usually just right click the file and choose compile, when i choose complile with options this is were i get issues with it being detected as a virus.
In the latest version of autoit this seems to be fixed also.
I usually grab the latest than also the latest beta, there is an auto updater somewhere in the autoit install dir.

yeah I updated everything today with the new autoit, scite, defs, etc and recompiled it and attached it a few posts up, but haven't heard back from anyone as to whether or not it's still throwing a virus alert. Oh well... guess we'll see eventually...

I have have used AVG, and Norton along with my current MacFee (sp?) and my god i hate them all, but MacFee is the least of evils in my opinon. AVG and norton let many viruses through, nothing with MacFee yet, so i like it and the footprint is small although not as small as AVG. i also dont download foolish things unless i am trying to test something out like my AV. And my FTP software is working out great, no issues at all and its pretty cool AND a nice small footprint.

The heuristic detection on McAfee does basically nothing.

Thus for any AVG user to match the stellar performance of McAfee all they have to do is turn off heuristic detection.

By the way consumer reports tested the ability to detect new viruses and here is a quote about McAfee

    source
Ouch a little rought eh? I didnt waste my money either, i get it free from University. I dont care about heuristic detetction anyways i am not visitng "bad" (read: porn and warez) sites all the time and have to worry about viruses all the time. i have seem that consumer report test and it is a little biased anyways.

My intentition was not to start a AV battle, just shed a little humor. so sorry if i offended anyone .

Ah all in good fun. I don't think anyone was really fighting about anything. Just like anything else we all have our "that's my opinion and damn you if you think you think otherwise about it" mentality.

You're trying out the one I told you about right? It does have a nice tiny footprint, and better protection than most others. My IP deny list has grown by another 5-10 over the past weekend. lol
