Skinning, fallen at the first hurdle!!Grrr!!

Right then, I'm having a problem and I can already tell that it'll be something stupid and I'll look an idiot by the end of the thread so let the slating commence!!

I've never done this before but I've designed most of the JPEGs and thought I'd have a go at a couple of basic things just to get under way and see some results.

The problem I have is that when I make the first two skin files for Menu and AUDIO_PLAYER, I put the buttons on to move from one to the next and back, I assign "AUDIO" to the button in the Menu screen and "Menu" to the button in the AUDIO_PLAYER screen but when I save and run the skin in RR I'll click on the first button, it says "Music" but doesn't change the screen.

Now as I said earlier I can see this being something stupid but I've re-read the .txt files, had a look through the forums, looked at the buttons in the other skins and I'm still sat here scratching away.

So can someone please send me an e-slap and point me in the right direction!!

    Cheers guys,
    Stu

if it says "Music" it's because the button "AUDIO" is correct, but if it doesn't load the screen, then either your .skin is invalid, your empty JPG is invalid or your file is not really there (i.e. the file name is not audio_player.skin). Stupid windows hides known file extensions by default so please check that your file is not audio_player.skin.txt or something. That's one of the reasons why it's recommended using the skin editor when first starting.

Cheers for the quick replies guys.

Yes I am using skin editor, and I've definately got AUDIO_PLAYER.skin and Menu.skin. The JPG file for EMPTY is the same file as OFF.

I've even tried saving each of the skin files in upper and lower case to follow how they've been written in the .txt file and the description that comes up when selecting the button commands.

well, when all fails, post a zip with the .skins and another with the JPGS (can be low quality for size purposes), so we can take a look and find the issue.

Sorry about this, as I can tell that it'll be something stupid. I thought keep it simple just to see If I can get it changing screen to screen before getting anymore indepth. How hard could it be?? But then I managed to balls that up!!

When I tried quickly a couple of days ago I managed to get it to go from menu to the player screen but not back and now nothing.

Before putting people out any further I'll try reinstalling everything then putting it all together from scratch. There's only a couple of parts to play with so shouldn't take too long.

Just noticed something wrong in my first post as I'm using the MAIN command to get back to the menu screen, but if I'm not even getting to the player screen then this wouldn't be causing a problem yet.

The only box that I've left blank is the tooltip box as it says in the .txt file that this isn't used for RR.

Are the skin names case sensitive?? Just incase this is something that I could be doing wrong??

Just re-installed RR, skin editor and re-made the first couple of screens and all is well. Sorry guys, must have changed something by accident somehow when clearing out some of my HDD earlier.

Once again thanks for your help.
