    Conflicts between skins

    I think it would be a good idia to move all user variables from rr.ini to a skin rr.ini or the skin ExecTBL.ini and have it so the skin file supersedes the roadrunner one.

    I am starting to see lots of conflicts when loading a skin from another skin.

    Example: Chucks skin to Lsxvoid 2.0 skin and vise versa

    This would kill two birds with one stone if the skinner would want a default variable the user would not have to put it in there rr.ini file and the variables could change between skin loads.

    What do you think?

    guino would this be a easy thing to do or would it screw everything up?

    Code:
    Sample ExecTBL.ini skin file
    "ONFILECLICK","!SELECT"

    "ONDIRCLICK","BROWSE"

    "AUDIO","LOAD;audio_player.skin;MP3's||BYVAR;CLOCKon;RUNCLOCK<<"

    CLOCKon=1

    Thumbs up RR.ini -vs- Skin.ini

    Hahaha I was JUST chatting with Liquid Smoke about this! I think this is not just a feature, or something that could be done, but is now out of necessity.

    This would not only eliminate conflicts, it would allow skinners to put their information needed for the skin in their own skin folder in say a skin.ini file. This would eliminate someone having to muddle through adding stuff to the RR.ini whenever a skin is installed.

    Many skins, including mine have sections to add to the rr.ini that the end user has to do. If it's 20 lines long, that means to do it properly they have to look at each of those lines and make sure they are not already in the rr.ini in the first place, which is not an easy task with the non-standard format of the rr.ini file.

    This would be a major advancement, and I for one am hoping and praying this comes to be.

    i think something needs to be done about how plugins are loaded also, they should be added to RR when rr loads no matter what skin is running and the skin should just call a command to use the plugin. The extention stuff is to local and every skin has to enable it to use the plugin, it crashes the skineditor so i never use them cus after that i have to edit the skin in notepad. And not just that one .skin, the whole skin as the editor wont load anything soon as it sees the X,

    but thats a whole other thread.

    hahahahaa for this same reason, I do not use any of the skin you guys created. I like them so much but I can't use them because one screw up the other.

    Maybe the plugins should be loaded in the skin ExecTBL.ini also.

    And a way to load it so you do not have to register it

    Code:
    Sample ExecTBL.ini skin file
    "ONFILECLICK","!SELECT"

    "ONDIRCLICK","BROWSE"

    "AUDIO","LOAD;audio_player.skin;MP3's||BYVAR;CLOCKon;RUNCLOCK<<"
    "CLOCKBUTTON","BYVAR;CLOCKon;SETVAR;CLOCKon;1<<SETVAR;CLOCKon;0"

    CLOCKon=1

    I still say a dedicated \plugins\ folder is needed

    each plugin can get an autoexec file telling it to load the dll and initialize the plugin.

    So if we were talking about mileage.dll it would look like this

    \plugins\
    \plugins\mileage\
    \plugins\mileage\mileage.dll
    \plugins\mileage\autoexec.ini
    \plugins\mileage\readme.txt
    \plugins\gas\gas.dll
    \plugins\gas\autoexec.ini

    and so on. autoexec would be like ExecTBL.ini. If it exsists and points to valid files then it loads. if it doesn't exsist then that entire folder is ignored

    this would prevent making end users modify files and change their skins just to get a plugin working.

    Plugins should be global, not local to select skins.

    an autoexec file would also be a good way to set specific settings for said plugin

    exactly

    the plugins skin files should also be in that dir and loaded if the skin doesnt have screens tailored for the plugin.
    That way all that would be needed to do is change or add a button command to load the screen. And not have to worry about it anymore.
