Audio at start of a track is 'choppy'.

Hard to describe but I'm hearing it a lot - as a new track starts playing the audio is slightly glitchy and distorted. Not hugely so but noticable. Will have to confirm if I can repro this outside RR (e.g. in winamp or media player by themselves).

This might be as simple as checking your mixer settings... CD Drives and Analog input devices can throw a lot of noise into the audio output if you leave them unmuted. The other thing is you should check your winamp output plugin and maybe trying a different one..

All my music is variable bitrate wma files. So it's not hardware. Could easily be the winamp plugin.

there are different winamp plugins for most file formats... may be you should try a different one or try changing the settings of your current one.. Buffers, timing etc..

Tried the Windows Media Center shell and it doesn't have the problem (it uses windows media player for playback). I haven't experimented with tweaking or replacing my version of winamp yet.

I have some choppy issues in Winamp as well. But the big thing for me is that WMP plays my mp3 through my Extigy as 5.1, but I can't get Winamp to play in anything but just the fronts. I have two output plugins: Directsound and WaveOut. I've played with both of them but get the same results. Anyone have Winamp doing 5.1 and/or setup with an Extigy?

I have winamp playing 5.1 all the time.. but my decoder does all the job.. I just have a digital output out of my MB into my decoder and everything comes out surround. You should just probably look into a digital output plugin for Winamp, or mess with the settings they have to try to get it to work.

Went to the Winamp forum and found the answer there. Turns out it needed DirectSound output WITH hardware accelleration for the Extigy. Thanks!
