    4:3 & 16:9

    Guino
After the latest update my video was showing 4:3 on my LinITX 7" 16:9 touchscreen using the internal video player.
I checked RRConfig and 16:9 was selected. I changed this to 4:3 to see what would happen and my screen was now displaying video correctly at 16:9. Rest of spec as per my sig.
Are the buttons the wrong way round in RRConfig ?

Ahhh ... I've had this with the latest version with embedded apps going 4:3 instead of 16:9, I thought it was me so kept quiet!

I'll check it out.. the thing is: if your screen is 16:9, the zoom modes will be:
    Full, -4:3, -2.35:1, +4:3, +2.35, Cut

If your screen is 4:3, those are the zooms you'll get:
    Full, -16:9, -2.35:1, +16:9, +2.35

The reason for the above is that on a 16:9 screen Full is the propper aspect ratio as with the 4:3 screen full is the correct aspect ratio.. so RR allows you to use the useful zoom modes for your screen... if you have a 16:9 screen and selects a -16:9 zoom for a movie that is already 16:9, it should look "squished".. if it looks ok, then it's because it was a 2.35 movie in which case the -2.35 zoom in the 16:9 setting would work.

    Thanks, Guino
Is the zoom mode automatic ?
If it is manual how is it adjusted ?
I have never had to adjust the aspect ratio before at all...hence the questions.

Zoom modes are not automatic due to screen/video relationships .. and specially the fact that some videos have black borders and others dont.. you can cycle through the zoom modes by pressing the "eye" button in the video player (same as the Visualization button icon). This should allow you yo select the best zoom mode for the current video.

Thanks Guino, I didn't know that And before you ask NO I'm not going to write it !

With this extra info you just given me, I guess it doesn't matter which screen format you start out with, if you can correct by zoom.

Perhaps I hit this button inadvertently then, or maybe the latest update starts in a 4:3 zoom. BTW: I hadn't noticed in earlier updates the zoom info that flashes up for a few seconds, I wondered what that was not any longer. I noticed that it always came up CUT, but after changing RRConfig to 4:3 it now flashes FULL.
