    duzactx.dll missing or invalid??

Not sure what the importance of this is, im just installing RR for the first time, got the latest instalsheild version from the website but on instal I get the error

    RR Updater (window name)

Component 'duzactx.dll' or one of its dependancies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid

As I said im not sure if this is important as ive not gone further throught the instal yet, just wanted to note it before I lost the window.

Now it wont run- says ive not got a valid skin in BMV.... doesnt this thing just work with a default for now? I do have a skin pack for my car that someone else made but no idea yet how to install it.

Now ive tried the updater, its saying theres a newer version but when I click it it barfs a runtime error '2147417848 (80010108)': Automation error, The object invoked has disconnected from its clients

    It Wont Work

I can see this is going to be an uphill task- I was hoping for a quick install to take it on a test run tomorrow.

It seems that either the installshield was defective or the downloaded file was ... I do not control the Installshield nor the Update tool -- those are from a user initiative to help users without much computer knowledge.. There's a FAQ on installing RR manually, you should probably read it (you don't exactly need the installshield nor the update tool -- it is just easier with them)... you can try the installshield again or install manually.

    Aha!

Figured out how to get it loaded at least - the path to the day skin is already in the configurator, but to make it work we have to add the same path to the night skin because its blank ..... simple when you know how... duh!

I followed the faq on installing but it didnt say anything about the configurator.... no matter, its running now, I can noob about with it from here....

thanks guino - im sure ill be back with some questions tomorrow- I can see one already in the search results... damn spinny thing

Read the High CPU load/Flash FAQ... you probably need to update your flash player (or use a skin that doesn't have flash).

Oh man, im such a noob flash now updated and it switches back to main like it should.

Thanks for replying and being patient and not shouting at me or ramming the search icon up my azz, I was hurrying and tired as hell last night cuz I wanted it in for today. Perhaps the install FAQ should include updating flash?

Im new to front ends and only tried CF so far (which was useless when it came to embedding infomap) but RR seems better and id like to stick with it if i can get it to work with everything.

Just one thought so far - right click does the same as left (it seems). I thought maybe mousovers would help learn the interface as theres a lot of buttons (as well as it being quite indepth) but hover mousovers might make it look messy once you learned them, how about using right click to activate mouseover help boxes for those icons we dont yet know (or forget)? Just a thought.

    Thanks again guino.

RR was designed for touchscreen use (as most front-ends).. Button clicks are basically the same, the only current way to perform different actions is to press-and-hold -- only a few buttons have two functions like FFW and FRW ... again the hovering function in RR is only for Keyboard handling, tooltips get really annoying with a touchscreen so that's not going to happe either...

Yes thats what I meant, hover tips will look messy and be annoying, thats why i thought put tooltips on the right mouse button because its not used...

how else do us noobs learn what all these buttons do? is there a list?

The easiest way is to play with them.. you can open the skin in the skin editor and double click them to view the command codes (listed in skin commands.txt) ... then you can change them to do whatever else you want -- if you don't like it..
