Thread: Reload Skin

it should only close MM by default.. it should only close other applications if you have closeapps=true on RR.INI and even then, it should only close them when exiting RR.

Here's what happened with me.

Run RR

Start FreeDrive from within it

the goto my config screen which starts up my config program.

Now originally I had a button the sent ALT-A to my app, followed by ¦¦RELOADSKIN which let my program make changes to the skin files and then reloaded the skin.

all seemed to work

but recently posssibly since 2-19 my program didn't update it's ini file. It was as if the program got terminated before it had finished.

so I removed the RELOADSKIN from the button, and now get my prgram to send that command when it's finished it's updating. And this works all and good.

however I have noticed that when I then go back to the GPs FreeDrive has to load up again.


I do have closeapps=true, but that's because I want the apps closed when RR does, but not if I am just refreshing (RELOADSKIN) then skin

ok, just checked it and with "closeapps=true".. RR will close the applications when switching skins/reloading... I can remove that and make it only reload on exit but if you don't go into the screens for those applications, then RR won't know to close them... so it's something to consider.. an example of how it would be:

Launch RR, load FD on EXGPS, then switch skin to another one, not go back onto FD (still loaded), then exit RR -- FD will remain loaded even with closeapps=true. Only if you went back into FD screen (so RR re-embeds it), that RR would close it when exiting..

so Just tell what you think it's best.. I think it should close on swithing skins too... cause when you don't want it to close, you can simply don't use closeapps=true and just add CLOSEWINDOW commands on exectbl.ini to close your applications if left open.

Why would it not remember that it still had to closeapps after switching skins?


Thing is, I don't people to have to customize or edit exectbl.ini when I distibute my skin(s)

I understand.. and that's why there's such a thing as a skin-based exectbl.ini (inside your skin's folder)..

You can easily make an entry like this:

"QUIT","CLOSEWINDOW;MYAPP1||CLOSEWINDOW;MYAPP2||SK INQUIT"
"SKINQUIT","QUIT"

This will ensure to close any "specially embedded" applications on your skin, regardless of the user settings they have on the main exectbl.ini..

PS: The reason why it doesn't "remember" to close the apps is because the window title is saved on the screen itself and that gets completely unloaded when you switch the skin, so the setting is "lost" until the screen is re-loaded (which will reapply the window title onto the screen).

can we keep the way it works now (close all apps on reload) as an option. I like the way it works as it is. The reload skin command is mostly for skin dev and its usefull for me when trouble shooting the launching/embeding of apps or special scripts that execute etc.
