Thread: OBDMPG - MPG OBDII Plugin for RR 6-12-09

I honestly have no clue if that digimoto interface will work with the plugin. It was designed to control an ELM. If the digimoto can be controlled the same way then it'll work fine otherwise you would be out of luck.

In response to the speed issues i'm working on doing some interpolation of the data so it appears as if its coming in much faster to the end-user. This means smoother gauges and faster updates. I've found a code sample from another mp3car user where this was implemented so i'm thinking it shouldn't be too hard to implement his ideas into OBDMPG.

I was also wondering if everybody was fine with the current mpg averaging, meaning a trip and an overall average. I've been trying to think of the best way to obtain useful data and thought adding something like a 5sec average might be useful. If anybody has any thoughts please let me know.

I'm going to be kinda busy this week and the beginning of next week since its finals time for me but I should be able to make some serious progress over my christmas break and squash a lot of the existing bugs.

Almost forgot about this. If you take a look at the sample skin you'll see there is an adjust screen. After you let the plugin run for a tank of gas it will report how many gallons it thinks you used. You can then enter the amount you actually used and it will calculate the adjustment factor.

This is actually only implemented via the Volumetric Efficiency number at the moment since I think the MAF calculation is fairly accurate without adjustment. So at the moment that variable in the ini is not being used.

If you are getting inaccurate numbers using a MAF and would like to be able to adjust them let me know and i'll switch back to using the separate adjustment factor number.

Hey, I was just installing the latest version of this and I was having a real hard time getting the OBD link to show up in the skins. I finally gave up and came inside to work on my real laptop and I came to realize that the folders for the skin stuff are NOT included in the .zip file for version 1.2. Might wanna throw those back in there.

I tried the standalone downloadable sample skin on your website, but that didn't show up as a valid skin.

The "sample skin" is just the skin files needed to add obdmpg to the carwings skin. Its not a separate skin, you need to copy those files into an existing carwings installation for them to work.

It's separate so those who just want the new release do not have to download the skin again when it hasn't change at all.

Now I get it. Though that does make it trickier for those new to the plugin. I didn't know about the need to manually make a change in the skin until page 8 or 9 of this thread. There are a few instances where it says the necessary skins are in the same zip.

Sorry about the confusion. I've added a little blurb to the first post that should hopefully make things clearer for those new to the plugin.

I just installed your plugin this weekend and have a few comments.

First could you change your install instructions to reference the ../Road Runner/Plugins/"PLUGIN NAME" directory for where to put the dll etc. We have been working an RR standardization project and all plugins should be subdirectories to this directory from now on. I installed yours into ../Road Runner/Plugins/OBDMPG and it works flawlessly from there. We're just trying to unclutter the root RR directory.

Second, no matter what settings I change in the version 1.2 ini, I can't get my temps to show in degrees Fahrenheit. It always shows degrees Celsius.

Third, is there a PID for battery voltage?

First, I can change the instructions no problem. I was not aware of an attempt to standardize the plugins directory.

Second, currently the units only switches the MPG variables. I can add the temps no problem.

Third, there is not a PID but it is a function of the ELM. The command "AT RV" is supposed to return battery voltage. I'm going to try to implement it but I won't be able to test it myself as I only have access to an emulator at the moment and not an actual vehicle.
