This is a pretty great looking plugin and could really help me out. I have a bluetooth obd2 transmitter, and i have it all hooked up and it seems to work fine with your plugin. I get things like temperatures and speed, but i'm getting all 0s for anything MPG-related. I'm getting a lot of figures on the right side of the screen, but nothing on the left.

the car has a MAF, but i'm not getting any readings for it, no matter what the ini says.

what are the REQUIRED inputs/PIDs to be able to calculate mpg?

If you don't have a MAF or it's not readable for some reason you need to be able to read RPM, MAP, IAT, and VSS to get a MPG calculation. Note that if you are at a stop your VSS will be zero and as a result so will your MPG.

If you do have a MAF all you need is MAF and VSS to calculate MPG.

The problem comes in when you have a MAF, and consequently no MAP or IAT, but it can't be read via the standard PID. Unfortunately, in this case you're out of luck.

This is what seems to be the case here, I know for a fact that I have a MAF, and I'm getting no readings for the MAP/IAT. How does one get around this? If there a way to find out what PID my MAF would be reading as?

Could there be an ini setting to define the PID for a nonstandard MAF?

How does a device like a scanguage calculate mpg for almost any car you plug it into?

There's an open source device called an mpguino, I don't know if you've seen it, but it calculates MPG with only one or two inputs and a few predefined settings: http://ecomodder.com/wiki/index.php/MPGuino

If someone can crack this problem, it would be awesome, but I have a feeling the solution may be slightly different for each manufacturer. It's not impossible, but I think it would take someone with the time and skill to decipher the proprietary information coming from the port. I think Scangauge probably did that work. There are only two products that I know of that I can get this kind of data from my car (Volvo) and Scangauge is one of them. If I had any expertise in this area at all, I would try.

Quickly looking at the wiki page you linked to, MPGuino appears to monitor fuel injector pulse and speed to calculate MPG.

if there's anything i can do, let me know. if you make a special debug version that goes through and tries all inputs/outputs and logs what you get or something, i'd be happy to test it on my car and as many more as i can get into.

I'll see what I can do with reading the supported PIDs and spitting them out for analysis. I used that method in a version a while back though and a lot of people had problems getting things working.

I'm in the middle of a extensive bathroom remodel project at the moment though so don't expect a quick turnaround time, it might take a couple of weeks until I get to it.

In the mean time if you can figure out the PID for your vehicle I can easily add a switch in the ini for specific vehicles that require a different MAF value.

Anyone tried this on a Nissan? All the "Extra" pids seem to populate with the exception of a few...but the mpg doesn't work at all b/c there's no MAF or vss reading pulled. Apparently Nissan uses some non-standard pids b/c otherwise I asume it would work.

I've got obd2007 installed but haven't looked in there yet for maf or vss, I know it supports a ton of stuff...yet it seems it even has some issues reading some of the values. I do know it reads the intake air temp which is kinda cool.

I have somewhat good news to report, those of you with MAF and maybe even VSS issues, it's not you it's me!

I'm working on adding some new features and while working through my testing regimen I noticed the MAF was not updating correctly, turns out I had some conditions in place that would only work when someone had a MAF, MAP, and IAT sensor in their vehicle, a very unlikely scenario.

I'm working on the next release and hope to have it published soon, so stay tuned!

That's cool, I'll try testing when you have an update but I'm not holding my breath. This is saying nothing against your work, it's just that I have not seen any off the shelf OBD2 program read the MAF on my Volvo. If it does, then I will be impressed.
