No one knows yet if you'll be able to tether the iPhone to a PC or Mac using bluetooth. I'm sure once the iPhone comes out that information will show up within a few days.
Ok, so i'm salivating at the new iPhone by Apple as if having Pamela Anderson was standing right in front of me in her red (baywatch) bathing suit asking "u want some?"..... uhmmm frozen where i stand...
This phone is hot!!!!
I would like to get this thing working on my carpc - sure.....but would i be able to link through it to get internet? I believe the carrier will be AT&T (Cingular)....
Anyone else getting the phone? Anyone thinks they can crack the ability to internet thru it?

Preface: I don't care for it.....But, the fact that it's all touchscreen attracts many. I think the only thing that makes it stand out is some of the predictive features it has, such as sensing when you put it to your ear and when you hit buttons "accidentally". Outside from these type of features, it's essentially a cingular smartphone running OS X (leopard release I believe)
true, when you compare features there arent a whole lot of new features in the iphone compared to a windows mobile phone.
But you have to do more than compare bullet points of feature list.
A feature is a whole lot more than a line description of what it does. The most important part is HOW it does it. The best new feature of the iphone is the UI itself and how it presents and uses the features it has. A pretty and friendly UI is a hell of a lot better than an ugly dumb UI.
With that said, i still wont be buying one simply because not being able to remove the bat in a phone is a problem and im not signing up for a 2year contract if im not getting any type of deal on the price of the phone. Those 2 things alone will keep me far away.
ok ok so u want my opinion.... here's the list
widest screen by far
panaramic when turn sideways
plays music, videos, pics
did i mention the giant beautiful screen!!!
8gb hard drive
touchscreen, like the computer in my car - i love it!!!!!
oh, and it's a phone
i'm certainly not putting down any other unit out there. but i've waited 7 years for a gadget like this! why? because it has everything in one. Unlike PDA's which have no hard drive (memory card slots for memory that cost $300 for a 8gb stick if it's out there on top of the $400 sticker price of the unit)
The beautiful screen which no pda even comes close to. I mean, have you seen the ipod video player? or the sony PSP? it's sweet!!! I could only imaging the resolution and clarity on this phone will be outstanding. Apple is not stingy on quality (or price).
all this i think recaps what liquid smoke said about the GUI along with several other features- it's superb!!!
As i said before, i've been waiting for a phone like this because no other company dared to do it - not verizon, not PALM, not Treo, not Sprint, no one.
The only company was Sony (PSP) and they're not even the competition. Those others only gave u bits and pieces of the whole - WELL, I WANT THE WHOLE. Now unlike others, i didn't go into my pocket and purchase a PDA phone or the likes for seven years so my patience has saved me A LOT OF MONEY - enough to buy a $600 dollar phone..... Now i'm ready to splurge....
Granted the UI w/icons looks very nice/clean but I'll stick to my PPC6700. Have had it since it came out and does everything I need and more...
Unfortunately, the only thing is that I have not been able to get it working with my CarPC.
Progress: 91% (Cosmetics) @ Stand Still...
CarPC specs are BACK!! Edit yours today...
well, for one thing as far as any of the windows mobile phones i have used, most of them are too slow to bear, i find myself waiting and have delays in the interface that shouldn't be there, and i used them all day long 5 days a week. im much more a fan of the symbian os phones, both standard/simple phones and smart phones alike. i think the linux based kernel of a stripped down version of os x on the phone will be a very welcome option should be a lot quicker response. the biggest thing i hate about a lot of the smart phones( non touch) on the market, i.e. E62 using the joystick is just a downfall, they could have made it with a touch screen i think it was just a cost issue, i think it would be much better with the touch screen. i think the simplicity of having a touch screen that i dont need a ever need a stylus for is great. not to mention the organization of all the phones functions is incredibly well designed. All of the phone features aside, whether you like them or not, its all that plus an ipod. and as much as id like to say that the sansa's and zunes and other portable mp3 players are as good as ipods, they just dont meet the competition close enough.
now all that being said, i am not sure that i will be getting an iphone, at the very least i won't be getting one right away. primarily because of the fact that its a locked os and supposedly cannot load your own aps. i use my phone for my connect2car software and i dont want to have to use the web interface all the time for that. the lack of freedom of control is a big downside for me. and that is the biggest down fall i would say of the iPhone. i've always been one to fine tune the firmware and seems configuration files to the way i want my phone.
we'll have to see it when it comes out, especially its given functions and available software
