FYI for everyone, I have new code coming out tonight probably with bug fixes.

Also introduction of a new known bug that cannot be fixed, the controller of some (most) tdi's will not respond if above a certain RPM. I have changed the software to startup when RR starts, but if you're over that RPM you won't be able to connect. My software detects the lack of connection now and restarts vag-com indefinitely until it connects.

I will upload the new software and update the install instructions (you need to add a new line rr.ini now) tonight or tomorrow night. You also have some configuration options through the config file now.

Wow, that is looking really nice! I have wanted something like this for some time, but have run into so many problems, questions, and just not understand the whole thing hahhah

I have seen so many discussions and implementations of different diagnostic and ODBII stuff. I honestly am hoping someone can give me an explanation why one "universal" software will not work.

What about the other hundred or so Auto manufacturers? I had though that ODBII was a standard created sp that information could be read from just about any vehicle.

I found a great program that had a nice GUI, but only worked with Mazda and.... cant recall the other manufacturer.

What is the deal?

OBDII is a required standard. The connection on vw and audio cars are OBDII compliant, but they expand upon OBDII to provide much much much more functionality. This is one of the things that allows me to gather as much information as I do. Unfortunately, this means that the program is limited to use with vag-com cables on vw on audio.

Also, I know I promised an update tonight. I have all the coding done and tested, I just don't have time to upload it...I've been working on a project for my masters degree. i will try to get it uploaded sometime this week. Sorry all.

Bug Fixes:
Dealt with a bug that caused it to fail to startup. I discovered that the control does not respond if you are above a certain RPM, I could not help this...but I was able to make it detect it and try again.
The data gathering .exe now must be started by RR at load, in hopes of getting it started up BEFORE you start driving and bring your RPM up
The average MPG is now over the last 10 minutes. It will probably get longer as well. I am still fussing with the parameters a bit to make it more accurate. I am trying to eliminate invalid data values (such as 300 mpg when you coast etc).


On a side note, the key to getting it to start up correctly is to keep an eye on it and let off the go-pedal when you see it is about to talk to the controller. If you don't the controller will ignore it (there is absolutely nothing I can do about this).

i'm wondering two things though , i don't quite understand what you mean by the following links have the updated code 1,2,3 ,they're not clickable?

and can your program be switched to kmp/h , km/liter etc?

If you look on page 2 there is a post where all of the links are as well as install instructions for everything.

yes it can switch between metric and us units. There is a config file installed in the vagscope-roadrunner directory that can be used to cause the program to output metric units, You just need to change the line "<add key="useMetric" value="false" />" to "<add key="useMetric" value="true" />". You will need to edit the skin though to make the units that are displayed metric, I do not have a metric skin.

You may also want to check all of the window names in your application, these are also in the config file. The reason for this is that different versions of vag-com have different window names and I can't code for every version If you find the automation is not working then take a look at the window names and make sure they are correct.

Let me know how it works for you. I see several downloads on my server but no posts on how it worked here, I don't know if that means it didn't work for people or did

Still waiting on feature requests too. Like I said, this was largely a tool for myself, but if I like the feature idea I may take the time to code it If it's not useful to me I may not code it because I barely have enough time for what I'm doing as it is, but it is open source at least
