Thumbs up FBAuto Dimmer [RR Extension Plugin] (Coming Soon!)

Ok, I have just about finished my first RR Extension Plugin! It was done out of necessity really.... I wrote the code in VB script, and got a lot of help from BlueZX3 helping me figure out where to put the code in the the extension plugin example (Thanks Blue!)

This plugin "piggy backs" off of Sonic's fantastic RRFusion Plugin. It uses the variables and labels that he created communicating with the FB dll's.

This plugin takes advantage of the potentiometer that comes with the FB when you buy it. I also purchased a PhotoCell from the FB store.

    What it does:

It allows you to dim the screen with the potentiometer. I find this much easier than navigating the screen's menus to control the brightness.

If the potentiometer is turned to full brightness, it then puts the plugin into "Auto Mode". Meaning, that depending on the light level hitting the photo cell, will adjust the screen brigntness automaitcally. With the turn of the potentiometer, you can overide that and set the brightness manually where you want.

The plugin has "buffers" built in, to filter out small variances of light. Otherwise the screen would appear to flicker as it adjusted totally in sync with the photocell readings. This also allows the brightness to ramp up and down smoothly, so it does not pop to dim mode when entering a tunnel, or going under an overpass ect.

I hopefully will have the plugin avail for download in the next week or so. If someone has a FB with a Potentiometer and a photocell, post a message in here and I will send out a beta to the first few people that respond for testing.

    N O T E:

I have posted a poll at the top of this thread to get an idea of how many FusionBrain owners are out there. Please take a second to vote weather you have one or not. Thank You!

Actually with Sonic's new plugin it could NOT be simpler!

Install the FB drivers then plug it in. Copy his Plugin to your plugins folder, and the sample skin to your skin folder.

Fire up RR and you will start seeing the readings come in from the FB. Simple as that!

I am building a new CarPC from scratch, and it honestly was that easy! Now I just have to Photoshop the sample skin to match mine.

Now you can tap the screen to turn on/off a relay (Control winsows, door locks, A/C ect) , use a temp probe to get temperatures, Ultrasonic probe for parking, Sliders, dials you name it!

I would love to hear how everyone is using their FB's. There are TONS of applications and uses for it!

ONe of the things I am implementing will be an automatic gate opener. I have a remote for the front gate to my community. I am going to take it apart, and solder 2 wires to the button contacts in the remote. I will then use the FB with a relay to be able to then "press" the button. Using some GPS distance code I have here, I will have that running on the CarPC. When I get close to the gate, the relay will trip and hold the button down for 10 seconds (As GPS is not pin point accurate, and will give a margin of error) and open the gate for me.

So, how is everyone else using theirs????

Well, I'm trying not to get too complicated to start with. My most pressing need when I bought my FB was to have it extend and lower my Car's FM antenna whenever I switched RR to and from FM. I already have activesourseID and its simply a matter of adding a check for FM and a command to toggle the right relay. Other stuff like this:

As soon as I sort out digital inputs with the RRFusion plugin, there's a world of other non-computer inputs to be monitored. I'll be monitoring 5 temps, my 200PSI air tank with a pressure monitor from Dakota Digital, and relays for windows, locks, compressor, antenna, fridge, amp, etc. Lastly, I'll have onscreen monitoring of all my lights and tie the cars dimmer to the screen's brightness control (but I like your idea better).

Hmmm you could monitor your GPS position, and when you get within range of your house, fire an event to blow the horns to let your neighbors (errr.... NEIGHBORHOOD rather) know you are home!

LOL That would make one HELL of a car alarm!!!!!!

    Yeah that was awesome...

I sadly STILL have not put my brain in the car environment yet. Mostly due to software. I like MDX, but it's not practical for me. I use DFX 4 and have been hoping for some basic FB functions to be incorporated into the skin, I am not a skinner, tried and failed, leaving it to the pro's.

What I would immediately use my brain for.

Temp sensors inside and outside temp.
I would absolutely us the Auto dim feature.
I might hook up my garage door opener to it.
I have already hooked up my fog lights to it with mdx.

I mostly limit myself to whats available "Skin Wise", I want temp readings on the menu.skin of, but do not have the know how to start witj RRfusion and end with displayed temps. I am not complaining but giving feedback about what and why I would use my fusion brain. I cannot wait for things to come, I will patiently wait for the masters to skin these great features! Thanks as always, and keep up the phenomenal work!

well the next DFX release will have Sonic's RRFusion plugin all skinned and ready to use. It will be a standard screen with a bunch of on and off buttons for each device. To truly have it set up for each users needs, some graphics editing and minor skinning can be done. For instance instead of "Relay 1" on the button, "Fog Lights" and maybe a fog lights icon next to it would top it off.

Wouldnt it be incredibly easier to sense if the headlights are on like a radio does?
