    Plugin developing for newb

I've been around for a little while using rr and its great plugins. I have minimal programming knowledge but have managed with some help to contribute mildly to the community. I would like to start working on some plugins and am looking for some guidance. What I don't know I can figure out in time. What tools or programs are recommended. Are their simple projects I could disect to learn? What direction would you point me in?

Well RR is done in Visual Basic 6

So easiest thing is to do the plugins in the same. (note they can also be done it AutoIT, C#, vb.net, delphi probably)

If you have coding experience then it shouldn't be too difficult, there are a couple of examples in the RRExtension Plugin Examples folder of RR.

i somewhat disagree with what enforcer said. VB6 is the native language, but vb.net and C# are far easier languages to learn IHMO and the visual studio programs for each language offer a newcomer alot more help (better on-the-fly error correction for example).

Some years back i converted the vb6 extension plugin example to vb.net. If its not included with the current example package im sure i still have it on my development pc.

my vote would be with Sonic and go for vb.net. I didnt know how to code anything when I started but now use vb6, vb.net, c# and c++(with alot of help) and vb.net was the simplest to get started with. It also has free software from windows to develop apps. Look for visual basic express 2008

I never used any of the VB stuff before, but I have done an AutoIT based multi-playlist manager thanks to some great advise and help from ElCamino. I'm from a hardware based background which makes me a total programing novice, so if I can do it, anyone can. My advice is to choose a programing language/poison that you feel most comfort with and chop away at it. The more you chisel away at it, the more you will learn. And when you hit obstacles, which we all do when learning things new, don't be afraid to ask questions. There are "some" here that will happily help out.

I absolutely wish you the very best of luck.
