Could a Weather Plugin show something like this ?

Hi all of the Plug Makers

Occasionally when on the web, I look at the following webpage to look at the Irish Weather Rainfall Radar. It's great for indicating as to what weather is coming my way.

    http://www.met.ie/latest/rainfall_radar.asp

I just wonder if there is a frame of a webpage that could be incorporated into a skin ? Or maybe there is a weather rainfall radar webpage that could be always opened by a particular skin screen, rather than a browser always being opened and needing to go to weather from a bookmark.

    The short answer is YES.

The long answer requires you tell me what skin are you using.

I have created screens that are called from buttons on my weather screen that loads jpgs snapshots of weather maps for National, regional, and local radar. (Clicking on any pic makes it full screen

    National:

    Regional:

    Local:

If you look closely at the lower right ot the top screen capture, there is a button marked "Animated Weather." This button has a different function on the one day screen and the 5 day screen. On the one day main weather screen it downloads 4 animated gifs (in case I lose internet) that are displayed via the bottom buttons in a IE window.

    Animated US Radar:

Notice how the IE window is purposely embedded in the skin. This is what you're looking to do and its easy if you can get the actual internet address of just the map image. If you use the webpage you listed that entire page gets embedded wasting a loy of real-estate on your skin. You have to get just the map.

This is the simple way of doing it, but there is another. Remember, when I said the "Animated Weather" button behaves differently from the 5 day screen. That button calls up an RR Webpage screen with an embedded flash file that accesses an animated regional weather page. This one is really cool because it is not only animated, but also interactive.

    Interactive:

This one requires someone write a flash program to capture the animated file.

    Hope that helps some.

A quick look at the image shows it as a png with the current date and time in the url.

this one was 16th November 2015 at 10.30am.

They seem to be every 15 minutes.

I use the Reborn skin. All i need is something that gives me the scrolling rainfall radar pictures. So i assume that the PNG's are useless.

I have absolutely no preference for the source. So it looks like @GizmoQ might have the solution.

    Yes and no.

You would just need a way downloading the PNG images and then play them via a slideshow.

Could be combined with the picture and slideshow functionality already in RideRunner. (with some clever tinkering of course)

It would be better if we got something more "generic" where the plugin would suit the majority of people. Something where you can either select your country or maybe use your gps ref to pull the correct images for the correct location.

Hey @GizmoQ, is the one your using self developed ? And is it downloadable for others ?

Actually, that sounds like the best way to go. So do I just need to write a plugin to download images and save them on my CarPC ? And then use SLIDESHOW / PICVIEWER to display the files stored in the chosen directory on the HDD ?

    Pretty much.

You could of course have the plugin do the slideshow as well.
