No, I just downloaded it from searching somewhere when I was searching for voices. I haven't had a chance to play with Vista yet, but I should in the next week or two. Still... I'd be a little worried about sticking it on my carputer until at least Beta 2.

I'm seeing some funky stuff with the latest build. I tried the pause command, and I can see that it picks up what I'm saying and even sends the pause command to RR, but it's not pausing the music. I saw this with a few other commands too.

I tried the latest playlist commands to try and call music, but that doesn't work either. every time I say play list, it picks up play next. I haven't gone into the Commands.xml file to see if I can change this.

From my experiences (and pestering whodwho!) the playlist command doesn't work until the playlist is built. It then exists in a dynamic array alongside the compiled command.cfg. It isn't in the command.xml.

Just wanted to update to let you know I have been working on it. I wanted to step back and cleanup the existing code and try to catch a couple of these issues before moving forward.

I updated the keyword grammar file to be a dynamic one. You can set the keyword in the voice.ini file now. I have it set for one word or phrase, does anyone feel a need for more that one?

I cleaned up some of the code for pausing and hope that catches some of the above issues.

I worked on the playlist and found an issue was that if it found a duplicate title it would fail to build the grammar file. I also test against a 4000+ playlist and it builds in a couple seconds. (this one had worried me)

I also worked on the dictation mode. It takes a bit to get used to but show a lot of potential. I need to add a routine to undo as doing a ^z does not undo it. I think I will approach it with getting the length of the recognized string and using backspaces.

Like the idea of a single keyword, not only does mean one less cfg file but reduces the chances of unwanted recognition.
The playlist will be the killer app though.
Sounds like you've been hard at work, can't wait to try it out!

Can you send out a link with the latest build? I'm still having issues with the latest builds working with the USB Microphone I have in my car, but I need to do more testing.

I just now had the time "glance" at this thread and it seems like a nice effort.. although, I wondered how you were getting commands into RR... The truth is I never integrated voice commands directly into RR because its a feature that most don't use. In any case, I see you have made a "version" of RR with built-in voice support (or so I believe).. and if that's the case, I wouldn't mind including that in the official sources once it's well tested, that is of course, if you'd like to have it there (so you don't have to keep making new versions).

In any case, it would still be well possible to make the same application separately from RR but yet well integrated using RR's SDK to send/receive commands and data back and forth -- I can not think of any reason why it would *have* to be built in. Having it separately would allow you more freedom and control to this side of the application (and I'd be glad to point you in the right direction), but it's your code, your choice... I'm sure there'll be an interest from the community regardless.

I definitely know what you mean, until this thread, I never really had an interest in voice control. However, I realized I never reallly though much about it either. It is certainly a feature I would love to have for certain things most definitely, like Iguidance. I think much of the lack of interest is directly because nothing has come directly from you yet, Guino. I think that most people are somewhat frightened by the idea of open source and at best are skeptical of anything that appears to be added outside of the source originator's efforts. I bet an endorsment from you, or at least a semi-endorsement will greatly improve the interest in voice control. I know I would appreciate it integrated in RR and I am very hesitant to get too use to it knowing you may have a RR update right around the corner and it would need to be modified again....

When planning and building my CarPC I didn't give a lot of thought to voice control; my previous experience was limited to Microsoft Voice 1.0 on my iPaq. This was an excellent prog, with all of the features of VC, but due to the mic type and position on the iPaq it never worked while driving.
Now I've used a touchscreen, a mouse, a trackball, and finally voice control (navi voice), and I have to say the most reliable method has been voice control. It still has limitations (after about 80mph depending on road surface and when the music is up loud) but for navigation and playlist manoeuvring it has been unbeatable. Unfortunately, many commands in Navi Voice are hard coded, leading to gaps in control with say the UK version of iGuidance or RoadRunner. Whodwho has had the initiative to make all the commands fully configurable through the command.xml file, allowing any regional changes to be made with ease.
I believe this software to be a core method of CarPC control, and would vote that it remain an independent program in its own right, (there is a VC.exe) allowing community progress on all programs without muddying the scene with many different file versions.
