    AlbumOfTheDay plugin (aka AlbumShuffle)

    Hi,
I have created a small plugin for personal use and think it deserves to be shared.
Summary: The plugin scans you music collection and selects one album at random and then plays it in RR - hence the name AlbumOfTheDay

Requirements: Your media library should be organised in directories where a directory that has mp3 files inside is considered an Album

    How to setup:
    * Put the downloaded dll and the ini file in a directory of your choice
    * run the "regsvr32 AlbumOfTheDay.dll" command at the command prompt in that directory to register the dll
    * add the following to the scin where you want to use the button:
    X,AlbumOfTheDay
    B,313,385,167,33,"ALBUMOFTHEDAY",
obviously you can change the parameters of the button
    * set the required parameters in the ini file included (see information at the top of the ini file for details)

    General information:
The plugin works in the following manner:
    * recieves the ALBUMOFTHEDAY command
    * scans your music collection in the location specified and compiles a list of albums
    * chooses one album at random
    * creates a playlist file at specified location with the album
    * clears playlist of the winamp
    * sets winamp to play the created playlist
    * sends specified commands to RR (see ini file for details)
    * sends RELOADLIST command to RR to refresh RR's playlist

    Additional notes:
    * Please note that the plugin has almost no proper error handling (it is simple enough and I have not encountered errors yet)
    * I will release source code if there is interest in it
    * I will update it a bit in the near future - so any suggestions are welcome

    Hope somebody finds it usefull

Edit: Updated the name to AlbumShuffle per liquid_smoke suggestion

this is pretty cool, i think ill use it.
Instead of calling it album of the day which makes me think there is only one of them each day, maybe call it album shuffle

finally got around to giveing this a try.

This is a really cool idea. I can see this growing into something super cool.

There are a few issues ive ran into though.

    1. For some reason it dosent seem to like my music library.
When i set it to scan my entire lib it bombs out, no error messages or anything it just dosent work. I know you said there were no error handling so thats expected.
My music lib is sorted Artist/Album/tracks
When i set it to only look in one Artist folder that has multiple albums it works fine. But only shuffell those albums.

2.Think there needs to be some kind of feedback on whats going on, or if anything is going on. Maybe have it set to load up a few premade RR screens with its status. Example, "MENU;working.skin" that would have basic RR labels with text saying what its doing, like updateing library scan etc. Maybe also add a RR indicator that lets you know you are in album shuffel mode.

Those are the only real issues.

Some other ideas i have that maybe you could add in the future if you do indeed intend to develop this further.

It would be cool to actually have an album mode in RR, something ive wanted for ages but so far no frontend or even desktop audio apps have done. Basicly the way RR works now i would call track mode where it looks at individual mp3 files and treats each file as a track, and really dosent care what group/album this track belongs. You load up a series of individual files and play them. All audio navigation buttons are setup to work on individual files in this manner. Shuffle will randomly pick an individual file to play next, repeat will repeat the same file, next, previous skips single files etc.

Album Mode would treat one entire album as a single element.
Instead of shuffleing tracks, shuffle the albums (what your tool already does)
Intead of next track you have next album, previous album
Fast forward would actually skips tracks inside of the album since the whole album is treated as one element, as if it were one huge mp3 file with all the songs.
Also while your tool is scanning your music lib it should creat playlist files for each album it finds and store them like you are now but a seperate file for each album. I would love a tool that did just this!

You should be able to toggle this mode on and off with a button.

In general i compare this whole idea to the way a cd changer handles cds, and believe this should be the default way music is handled inside the car.
I hope you like my idea.

I tried this and get error then error then epty then error 2 ok boxes and it opens my audioplayer skin and clears the playlist. it does make the playlist file though but I have to manually add it and press play to make it work. I'm assuming this isnt supposed to happen. i registered the dll by putting it on the c drive and changed the ini to the correct music paths and left the other setting as they are.

    Hi,
Thanks for interest in the plugin. I am currently in the process of working on an update to the plugin. It should be finished the coming weekend. Please hold on till then and hopefully most of the problems will be solved.
