I prefer Tag & Rename, which does all that and more.
I see a lot of people asking about puting album art in their MP3 folders. This program is FREE and does a FANTASTIC job! Will work great "out of the box" but you can have it save a file to your folder such as name of album.jpg, folder.jpg, or whatever.
It will scrape specified sites for almum art and create a folder.png, folder.jpg and also save the almum art into the MP3 using v2 tags.
It is something I can NOT live without, and thought others that have not heard of it may find it useful.
The file is LOCATED HERE.
On the other hand, where album art is concerned, I have found that Album Cover Art Downloader is a easier to use, faster, and comes up with the correct cover and MUCH better quality/resolution images much more than Tag & Rename has done for me.
The reason for this is Cover Art Downloader scrapes WalMart, Amazon, Yahoo & Buy.com giving a lot of image choices. Tag & Rename ONLY uses Amazon and as many people know WalMart's Images are usually a lot higher resolution, than the ones on Amazon.
Also a MAJOR annoynace! Amazon has gotten pretty tired of everyone scraping their servers lately, and started adding a LARGE white border around their images, that makes the album art, when displayed in Road Runner for instance look like a small thumbnail with a white background. Basically rendering it useless.
Also, Album Cover Art Downloader is a FREE application, and Tag & Rename is $30.00.
Here's an example of what I mean (Right click/properties on the images and you will see the servers they are coming from for yourself)
WALMART's Image (Same one that's in my folder that Album Art Downloader retreived for me)
Now, Which cover would YOU rather have?
(Keep in mind, and look at them closely, they are the SAME size images, just WalMart's dosen't have that Fracking white border)
For some stupid reason, when I would get new music, I would delete the album art. Now I have to go back and get all the album art for the music that I have. It's funny cause just last week I started to manually search for each album cover from places like cdcovers.cc. This thing is really cool. I'll be using this to get all my album art that I'm missing. This thing comes in handy when you have about 90 Gigs of music . I'll be working on it for a few weeks but I'll be happy when it's all done.
Car PC Progress
"Don't speak about it, be about it"
how does it handle folders where the music isnt formatted properly... like if the name is off or the id3 tag doesnt match the track name etc? I tried one of these programs before that was suppposed to get album art and fix id3 tags and it messed up half my 7000 songs :|
You can manually change the artist or album name in the top right, and then hit search. You can also just highlight a single song and have the art applied to just that song.
Here is an example:
The name of hte album here is "2006 Absolute summer hits" which is a compilation album. on the left, the large icons are the ambum art saved in the folder. Notice each song has a different image to display when the song is playing. Double clicking an artist on the album will expand the tree to show the song. Clicking on the song, will enter that information in the top right, and just click search. You can also edit that information to narrow the search down ect.
Is there any place to get this app any more? Host site seems dead.
Google search just seems to get me an old version.
I searched the web and downloaded version 1.6.0, will try soon.
Another possibility is media monkey. I've been using it for a while without any problems. I had a crappy collection of mp3's, many not tagged, no album art, and in the same folder. MM helped me tag them, organize them into folders based on the tags, and add the album art (embedded and jpg in the folder). I'm using the free version.
