10-20 seconds..man thats long...that doesn't sound right, which version were you using as I did imporove the scan time, but maybe that was before I even started this thread, please check and advise if your times are really that long, I will make a check in the car but even when I tested one of the earlier ver's it look only like <4secs (Epia 10k and v2).

Ah, I've just started looking for something like this.

My LCD sits pretty low in the car so it's a bit distracting to look down at it all the time while driving, so I'm putting a VFD higher up on the dash that I want to display song info and iGuidance stuff.

In addition to current and next street, I wanted the VFD to be able to display the direction of the next turn, and the distance to the next turn.

Would it take up much processing power to update the distance to next turn once or twice a second? I won't have time to play around with this till the end of this semester. I can't imagine it'd be very difficult read off the distance to next turn if you've already coded for the streets.

Dont know how I missed this previously, but if you are able to capture the street names, then wouldn't it be now possible to send that through a text to speech engine so iG always speaks the street name, not just the ones it knows?

It would be the deciding factor for me using iG.

once the RR labels are working correctly you would be able to do this with the rr SAY command

I'm curious when and how'd you'd make it say the next turn. IG will automatically say the next turn as you approach the turn so if you want it read right when it reads it, this will probably take some work on Blue's part because (as far as I know) RR can't tell when a label has been changed. i.e. you can't put "if label changes then say label". What you'd have to have happen is when Blue updates the next turn it would have to send a command like "nextturn updated" that you can put in exectbl to run your say command.

either thru modifying the source, an external script or whatever other means you wanna use you can make RR detect a label change. The easy way to go about it would probably be to simply detect it in the autoit script and tell rr thru COM to use the SAY command. Trust me this would be easy.

these things are easily found. I have a script that does this. Maybe once blue's program is tested enough for a full release we can collaborate and get it all in one script. (he already has my code in fact)

Easy answer, no, it would just increase the scanning time(s). Hard answer, yes b/c iG must be visible in order to read the screen, unfortunatly. Some ppl wouldn't mind though b/c they prob have iG showing most of the time anyway, just not my taste.

I would have to agree with sonic on when to use the say command, as 'I' would def know when the label changes. Its actually aready in the code, that was one ways of cutting down on the prog usage.

small correction, I have your idea/theory as to how to accomplish it. Thanks, BTW

All of the above ideas would be made into options, that way everyone can only use the parts that they want to.

I'm starting to have an "iGmon deja vu"

I would also like to ask if anyone is having any more problems. Fixing comes before adding.

I'm glad that this is becoming more used b/c it makes the time and effort put into it just that much less wasted!!
