    offline caching!

with the implementation of "favorite" theaters, i think i've come to figure out how to handle caching of the files for people who dont have always on internet. I think what i'll do is create a "MOVIETIMESCACHE" command which will read the list of favorite theaters and download the movie names and times for each of the favorite theaters. Now this idea leads me to ask a few questions on how you want this to be handled. Being that this feature will require quite a bit of time using slower connections to download data i feel as if there should be limitations placed to optimize speed. Two obvious limitations i need opinions on are...

-Number of theaters? Obviously the fav list can be as long as u wish it to be, but for offline caching purposes only should i read only the first 5 theaters in the fav list?

-Individual Movie Details? the plugin is called MOVIETIMES, so limit offline caching so that only movie name, address, and showtimes are pulled? This would mean no ratings, star ratings, details, or pictures would be downloaded.

thats basically all i can think of that would help speed. What do you offline guys think?

Actually for those with no internet in the car, such as myself, I would personally think you can download everything just fine.

What I mean is, if you are using your home wireless or a hotspot to get the data, more times than not this is faster than using Internet in the car with an air card or cell phone.

Also we are only talking about text information for the most part which is really nothing to download, the movie posters are only 10k each at the most. Leaving out the star rating of the movie is literally only like one character of text information essentially. As for the description, I just saved a large one to a text file, and its less than 700 Bytes (Around 1/2 a K)

I think just limiting the number of favorites for each user, based on how they connect is the key.

The only way I could think to really alter the connection time required, is to just get all the pages required for all the info, saved locally all at once, and then parse out the information.

    Just my thoughts on it.

i pretty much agree with you john and soon after i posted i realized that all the detail items are well.. "minor" details lol. They're stripped from screens i'll have to download anyway so i might as well keep them included

    Hey sonic...
new update looks nice... question... navigate button doesn't seem to work for me anymore and i am thinking it has to do with the changes i made for the gps loads.. does ur plugin assume i have "gps","load....." defined in exectbl.ini? Cuz i don't use the name "gps" anymore.. i use something else... Do you think that could be the issue? Also, "navigtemovie" command where is it defined?

    thanks.

the movienavigate command just runs the GPS commands then sends variables to the script to send to iguidance. What specifically did you do to your gps command to alter it? Maybe that will help me deliver a solution for you.

    OK, it works..

I was using this line before to be more specific on which gps i am using,
    "GPS_ig","LOAD;ig4.skin;iGuidance;C:\Program Files\iNav\iGuidance\iGuidance.exe;iGuidance"

I switched it back to "GPS", it's working now..

    thanks..

Is there a bonehead step by step to install this? I've DL'd the movietimes3.rar and put it into RR but it does nothing. I've got DFX 3 for the skin and nadda. All it wants to do is freeze.
