Thread: Outlook Express Email Plugin- Re-Release!

When I first hit the RRMail utton I waqs pleasantly surprised how well designed your sample skin was as well as how well RRMail worked. The preview mode is outstanding. The plugin has some difficulty with HTML mail but it looks very professional. Too bad about the fonts, text size could have been a little bigger.

O.K. since my preferred email browser is outlook, I just imported my inbox into express to test this. I started out with 60 messages total and all unread. when opening your sample skin I got the following popup.



My choices were 1,2,5, and 10 minutes. So for those of us reverting from Outlook you can only use this plugin for 10 minutes at a time???

I know I didn't open all the emails, and I checked back and forth between RRMail and Express, but I believe having paged down in preview mode through my mail, RRMail thinks all mail had been read:



And somehow dropped three messages. When I go back to Express all 60 messages are still there and three are marked read.

Lastly, when I try to send a message I have three issues. The text typed into the message body doesn't wrap so reviewing it prior to sending is difficult with a touchscreen. If I try to use the Contacts button, the selected contact is not put into the "TO:" field. Also the Contact menu doesn't close properly using the cancel command. And if I open the Contacts menu again it duplicates the contacts (I started with 4 contacts, closed the menu, reopened it and there were 8, closed and reopened and there were 12 - the same 4 repeated over and over). Finally, when I hit SEND, I got another popup:



I guess this one is based on the security settings in outlook but it was still annoying.


Overall, great progress! Its usable now but I haven't skinned all the available commands yet so there should be more to come later this week.

Thanks for the compliments on the example skin. I'm pretty bad with photoshop so i appreciate it! And yes the plugin currently cant read html mail, tho if ican find a way to download the html content to a file i should be able to parse any text.

This has to have something to do with Outlook vs outlook express. With vb6's mapi everytime a messages body is accessed the file is marked read.. so each time RRMAIL is run all messages in the folder are marked read in OE. I personally dont like that ... but there's nothing i can do about that unless i get rid of the preview box.

did you put kwab.dll into road runners base directory? and have you added the lines to exectbl.ini? kwab.dll has everything to do with contact management and there are lines in the addtoexectbl.ini file needed to tell RRMAIL which contact is selected. The cancel button issue is more than likely caused by the same thing causing yoru contacts not to work. The commands functionality is dependent of the contacts list telling RRMAIL what its doing (selecting or cancelling). The contact duplication thing is something iknew but obviously forgot to fix.. so i'll do that. Lastly, the pop up is definitely an outlook security feature. This plugin is really only meant for OE at this time... so you'd have to switch OE to your preferred for the time being. I will look at Outlook integration.

For some reason I cannot even get the skin to open when I push a button I made “RRMAIL” rr just speaks rrmail.

I tried to adding x,rrmail.dll to the MENU.skin

I just do not know what else to try.

its not rrmail.dll... just put x,rrmail

Sorry I did have x,rrmail but I had it in INC,Plugins.txt and that would not work.

None of the INC,files work.

And I had to set outlook express as the default e-mail.

Still having problems trying to see panview.

try to manually run RRMAILREFRESHPREVIEW to see if preview displays, but make sure the email is NON-html
