I can replicate what you were seeing easy enough.
I didn't realise VB's input # function treated commas in the read string as a delimiter. I've switched to pipes in tripmeter.ini in this test dll, hopefuly it will work for you.
This one's version is 0.5.0.37 if you're having caching problems

Well it didn't work
, I still get the same strange numbers after shuting RR down once and then going to the tripmeter screen.

That's what I have in my tripmeter.ini file, the first line is the total & trip distance and the second one is what I logged as "work". in the tripmeter skin I only see:
Total: 25
Trip:0
Work: *60518*, * is some more numbers that doesn't fit.
