    SOLUTION:

In order to fix this problem, you'll need to set up and register the library file.

download the file you are missing and manually register it yourself. Here's how to do it:
    Download MSCOMCTL.OCX .

Back up your current copy of MSCOMCTL.OCX and copy the new version to the same file location. This file should be located in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory on your C: drive (for Windows NT and 2000: \WINNT\system32).

Using your mouse, click on the "Start" button and then click on "Run".

According to your Operating System, type the following command to register this library file:

    Windows 95, 98, or Me:
    regsvr32 \windows\system\MSCOMCTL.OCX

    Windows NT or 2000:
    regsvr32 \WINNT\system32\MSCOMCTL.OCX

    Windows XP:
    regsvr32 \windows\system32\MSCOMCTL.OCX

You should see a message saying "DllRegisterServer ... succeeded"

If you are getting an error telling you that the file is missing, then you are not typing the command in correctly. You will need to type it in *exactly* as as shown above for your operating system.

    * Please note that there is a SPACE after "regsvr32" and before the rest of the command.

You should probably copy and paste the command so that you are unable to mistype it.
    For win7 64bit users, <windir>\syswow64\MSCOMCTL.OCX

It HAS to be there, as it has to run as a 32bit process. It will try to register as 64 in the system32, etc folders.

Thats kind of like taking a car to the shop, and saying "I noticed my does not run". A little more information would be quite helpful Skin version, patches installed, RR version, What operating system ect.

I just tested the color chooser, and was able to change the background color, font color, and the progress bar colors with the latest RR version.

Your right! I did post all that somewhere in this thread sorry

I am on win 7 64 (thinking of going to XP) ASUS AT3IONT-I DELUXE 4gigs of Memory
I down loaded DFX5.1, RR all at the same time about 3 weeks ago at the end of June,if that helps any?

I notice that DFX installed in "my document" and not in the programs folder.?
I get a com port error pop up
color changer stopped working, also the program hangs every so often I think maybe due to winamp (even with direct sound) not sure? I just uninstalled winamp last night.

I have tried others starting with a demo of Centrafuse hated it, lets see openmoble was OK
but RR with your skin is pretty cool if I can get it rock steady..

My next step is to maybe try it all over on XP, to think I was just going to buy a JVC and opt Car PC instead

Thanks John for your time and reply.

With Vista and newer, RR installs in whats is called "Profile" mode. Which in short, only installs the program files in the program folder, and any write to files(skins/config), in your my docs/RideRunner folder, to comply with OS requirements, eg UAC complaint.

I get a com port error pop up
This is probably due to a XM/Sirrus/Radio port that was set but there is no HW attached. And usually the error message tells you for what it is having the problem open the port for.

I think maybe due to winamp (even with direct sound) not sure?
This could very well be the case, there have been some posts in either this thread or threads in the main RR forum that describe W7 and winamp hang-ups.

I think I read on here somewhere that you run XP.. is this correct?
cos seems like win7 is a speed bump for this type of set.

no need to move BACKWARDS to XP....
ALL XP or otherwise installations should be in PROFILE mode anyway...
it(ref RR) was always violating the MS Rule of where data/programs should be stored...a ton
of software other there is/was in violation too...because on down side in XP is everyone was an admin user
and MS didnt enforce the rules where data should be stored... now since User Account Control
from vista onward, they enforce it...now you can always turn UAC off, and prob should in the CAR PC(not desktops)
just because, well i cant think of any real reason... other than id think in a CAR PC you're less likely to download/install
    malware...

some patience and they will have a fixed DFX5 Installer...
meanwhile you can fix it yourself, since your RR is in profile mode
delete the rr.ini in program files/Ride Runner
and then use the Legacy to profile mode program in the sticky
and finally, when its done, reregister DFX5.dll which is in my documents/riderunne/skins/dfx5/plugins/dfx5
    -Thanks

Yes, I still run XP on all my comps, but heavliy thinking about updating my DT to W7. There are several users that are using RR/Winamp/W7 setups with no issues, matter of fact, Mitch's RR dev work/testing is done on W7 64 machine.

Blue, I'm going to upgrade to ...and only if..."DFXVoice" will work/support W7. That will be my only reason to upgrade from XP to W7.

    If it's not broken,...bla,bla,bla.....bla.
