My recommendation to everyone, is hold off on reformatting, reinstalling everything, applying patches and stuff for a little bit. Tony and I are working on a nice new installer, that will have the auto updater built into it. A lot of fixes, additions, new plugin support is will be in the new installer. It will also fully be aware of both profile and legacy modes, as to where to store user files.

The auto updater will take care of any and all future fixes, bugs, additions and such seamlessly. It will also make backup of ANY files that it copies.

    Heres a scenario:

You download the new installer when it is ready. using it, you find some sort of bug or issue, say something simple like a label mispelled on the audio screen. You then report it in the thread. Tony or I fix it, and drag the new file to a folder on our desktop. You can then press the "Auto Update" button, and it will download the Audio_Browser.skin, backup your old one, and copy the new one into place. This way no patches, large installers ect. In this case it would be just a single file. The same would hold true if it were 50 files.

Now, that you have the new audio browser file in place, a week later something on the menu needs fixed, We fix it, move it into place, and when you update again, it will just download that file, as it knows the other files are up to date.

I know how frustrating it is to find a bugs soon after a new release is posted, and then everyone is told, ok, it's fixed, now wait for the next release. That will now be a thing of the past, because as soon as something is fixed, it will be available through the updater.

I have an AVerMedia H826 USB Hybrid ATSC/QAM TV/FM/etc device(and yes, it sucks while the car is in motion, which was expected), I'm guessing it's not that popular as I'm not seeing it populated in RRconfig under the TV section. And I of course tried it..

Is there support there already that I just have to alter a couple files, or do I need to embed and follow a tutorial?

    Thanks guys!

DFXVoice = W7 support! But...not ready yet by MY standards, though Johns says its good enough now as it stands currently.

Yes, even more so when we get it done. John put in the many original starting point hours not including my time working with it .... but when all said n done, will hopefully make both our and users lives much easier. Its flexible enough that we can do several updates in a day and a user can update when there is a change. Originally it was only gonna be avail when the date was past the update date, but that's no more! Options down the road will allow for offline updating and auto checking if an update is avail and will notify the user via a TBA method.

holy moly, dfx is rapidly becoming an OS in itself!

once this releases, i will be going win7 for sure again. i dont even care about voice support anymore, its really nice and fun but win7 is just more important. winxp works but its not carpc ideal.

I finished up a "Packager script" last night....This is getting pretty cool!

I have a folder on my desktop that I copy updated files, bug fixes and such in. I run the script and the magic happens!

It puts all of those files into a .zip archive for the current date: 07-17-2011.zip for example. It writes that date and info to an updates.txt file, that keeps track of all of the updates for the download script to know when an update is available. That .zip is then placed in the server folder, and at that very moment it is immediately available as an update to anyone, by simply pressing the "Update DFX" menu button in the skin.

On your end, when you press the "Update DFX" button, it will check for updates. If one, or more than one since you did it last are found, it will download, extract the files from the zip, copy files, register dll's and such. It will even restart RR or reload the skin, depending on what was installed in the update.

This is how it is looking like it will work now
