Thread: DFX 5.1.2 Released [ Updated 04-02-12 ]

Please consult the help file that was installed in the skin before asking questions in the thread. It is a very in-debth guide on how to use the skin, alter settings, and hidden features and functions. The help file is located in ~\RideRunner\Skins\DFX5\HelperFIles\. It can also be accessed right from the start menu in the DFX folder Tree.

FAQ (Frequently asked Questions) and solutions:

After installing the 09-01-2011 RideRunner, when I go to close the skin, it does nothing and becomes unresponsive.

This is because the ONEXIT event has finally been fixed that has not worked properly for a long time, so we did a work around to fix it, but now that it's been fixed, it causes a endless exit loop when you try to exit RideRuner.

How to fix options:
#1 5.1.1 users simply need to check for and install all updates and the problem will be gone.
#2 Open up the skin's ExecTBL.ini file and fix these two lines, right at the top part of the file:

The daytime and night time switching was using the old reload screen stuff.

If you want to manually fix it for now find these lines in the exectbl.ini that begin with the "GetDaySettings" & "GetNightSettings" and change them to these 2 lines:

Next download the file attched to this post, unzip it and put it in "Skins\DFX5\Scripts\Time Switch\" overwriting the one in there.

That will fix the auto swtiching. This will be fixed in the next release.


How do you keep DFX from beeping every time I push a button?

In the DFX skin folder, open the exectbl.ini and find these lines: (Line #34)

Simply put a / in front of the line to comment it out, like this:

save the file, and no more beeps when buttons are pressed.

How do I get the voice recognition to work?
Open the KeyTbl.ini file in the main RideRunner folder in notepad. Put this line in that file:
192,"RRVCON"

This will set the ` key (The key to the left of the number 1 on the keyboard, and above the TAB key)
When you press that key, the system will start to listen.
To use a button to activate the voice, you can use any hotkey program, Girder, iBus interface, JoyCon connector, serial Connectors, a mouse, and tons of other ways to fire the RRVCON command.
Note: You also have to have SAPI5 installed on your system, and train your voice profile to recognize your voice. There is tons of documentation on the web on how to do this.

IMPORTANT! You must go into RideRunner\Plugins\RRVoice and run RRVoiceConfig.exe with RideRunner running. Click the "Create" button to allow RRVoice to catalog your music and create the voice commands.

Note: Your music needs to be in a folder structure as follows:

If your folder structure differs, you can possibly do a search and replace in the music.ini and song.ini in the plugin folder to try to get it to work. You will have to experiment with it

I have the voice working, but the recognition accuracy is very bad, and it hardly ever understands what I am saying.

Having a GOOD quality microphone is the key! This is the one thing that will determine just how well the system recognizes your voice.
I, and many others are using this noise-canceling microphone from the MP3Car store for $40.

User andygardner was having recognition issues, posting that the system refused to recognize what he was saying. After reading about the Andrea mic, He purchased one, and here is what he had to say:

Can I use the Donation Patch on more than one computer?
After donating, the purchase is recorded, and you can download as many times as you like. Only one patch is needed for all the machines that you have the skin installed on


I donated for the DFX5 splash screen patch, and can not download it.
In the mean time, try using Fire Fox if you can, as the problem, till it is fixed, appears to be with Internet Explorer.
You can also just use the donation link in the first post of this thread. Just put in the notes that it's for the patch & and include your forum screen name, and I will send a link to download it. If you want the link sent to another email address, other than the one PayPal has for you, put that in the notes as well.

I am not seeing any maps for the National Forecast or Temperature maps.
Press and HOLD either the "National Forecast" or "Temperature Map" to load the maps from the Internet. The + symbol seen on any button through out the skin means it has a second function when pressed and held.

Google Earth shows nothing except buttons at the bottom.
Google Earth needs to be installed, and the path set to its location in the DFX5\Skin.ini file

Gas Prices shows me the screen but nothing is populated.
The Gas Plugin needs to be downloaded from Enforcers page, and then installed & setup.

I can not get the traffic cameras to work.
The Traffic Camera Plugin needs to be downloaded from Enforcers page, and then installed & setup.

I accidentally disabled the DFX5.dll, and now I can not use the skin!
You need to go into: Skins/DFX5/Plugins/Plugins.ini in notepad, and remove the disable dfx5.dll line

I load a CD from the CD Changer screen and the song info at the top of the screen and/or my albumart on the main menu is blank.
You need to update the RRMediaDb.exe found in your "C:\Program Files\RideRunner\Plugins\RRMedia" folder with the one at the bottom of this post.

The location doesn't work anymore, the one in the GPS etc that tells you the city, state and zip
The location RR feature was pulled out of RR and made into a plugin called GPS2City by Mitchjs and can be found Here

When in the Music browser screen (RRMedia) in "Folder" mode, I can not see files when I go into a folder that has audio files in it.
Replace the RRMediaDb.exe found in the attachment below, with the one found in your RideRunner\Plugins\RRMedia folder.

The RRMedia database plugin, written by BlueZX3, is included with the skin, and ready to go. All you need to do, is let it scan your music (takes around 5 minutes on 20,000 songs). This plugin allows FULL control over your music library.

It is VERY important that you have your music tags correct! It scans them to make the database. At the least the artist and title are needed.

When it is set up and working, it mimics and looks exactly like the standard file browser. Clicking on artists to see their albums, click again on an album to see the songs ect. But that is just the beginning! You can select what type of browse mode you prefer. Standard Folder View, alphabetical lists showing Albums, Artist, Songs, genre ect.

I currently have around 40,000 songs in my collection.

When I search for "Paradise by the dashboard lights" using the standard file browser returns the results in 47 seconds. During that time RR is frozen, and can not be used.

When I search for the same song using the database, the results are returned in about a half a second!

The database allows you to:
play any genre in your collection
play the music in track order, random order, reverse order ect
Search for songs by year, artist, album name, genre ect
Use a virtual 10 disk changer that you can add songs to each disk, remove songs from them, rename them ect
show and select from a list of recently played songs, what song has been played the most ect

DFX5 Updates.zip :
- Add's new Internet radio stations.
- Fixes the Album Art Browser (On the AudioBrowser screen, click the album art in the bottom right to access it)
Download the file, and extrack all files and folders into the root DFX5 directory, overwriting existing files.
(NOTE: Make a back up of your ExeTbl.ini if you made any changes, as well as any custom radio stations you may have added!)

Hi JohnWPB, firs of all thanks for all hard work u have done so far, i just downloaded your skin, i really like it, the only one thing is im using Venice7 radio, , i dont really know how to do, or change skins, are you planning to add venice 7 support to your skin in the future?

App Auto Mart is claiming the older 5.0 version. But the newer version is ~2MB smaller. This right?

Yes, the 2 meg smaller version is correct. Having some issues with the app mart. Still trying to get it all corrected, but yes the files are the correct ones, I downloaded myself from the app mart just to make sure

Anyone else having probplems with the skin not responding once visualizations is activated?

I am not familiar with that radio hardware. If it is supported by RR, and can get the commands and such for it, I would be happy to do a skin for it.
