Thread: Simplistique Skin Release - download and screenshots

Well, Simplistique is the 1st skin I've "played" with, I checked throught this post and unfortunately some of the links are no longer active, I was wondering if anyone had collected them together and may be able to post them?

As I say there are only a fwe missing files, the one I'd like to get hold of is the Roadrage skin which looks more fun than anything.

I just finished embedding my 0 lux Philips webcam into RR so I can access the cam an see whats happening in the back of the car, I was also planning on it recording a 5-10 sec avi file which will then email out the file should the car get stolen.

I had been working on getting Freefone working and was adapting another skin till I found the Freefone skin. I hope the great work from everyone continues.

Hi Guys! I have the same problem for 9 months and haven't solve it yet. I have Problems with touch screen when from hibernate ONLY in Simplistique Skin!
I Already have changed my pc to a new one as the first was just for experiments if i like that kind of hobbie...
Now for 3 months I have a new Better One (Intel Car PC Board), Installed everything from the Begining.
All went just right, new version of RR, mods, ODBII, etc.
BUT... the biggest problem still exists.
When from Hibernate, When I press the touch screen it does not respond. I Can Move the cursor, I can change songs with the "RED BALL" but nothing happens when i press buttons of Simplistique Skin. If I am to Windows desktop, I can work fine, just to that skin is the problem.
I read somewhrere after tons of search in the forum and googling, that these respond issues is from a bug in the flash file of Macromedia. But I cannot do anything for that. I hardly found Flash8.ocx and when i try to rename it to flash9.ocx, windows don't let me. Of course nothing in flash is running and RR is Closed.
What all of you have done for this? For the time, I have a wireless keyboard-mouse combo to my door, and after i press the left mouse button of it, then the touch screen works! It seems that Simplistique Has Lost Focus of Touch Screen Commands!!!
What About you? If I have to put a file somewhere, PLEASE send me that file, and give me some info about where and how to Install it. I first time need a help from you Guys anything else has been found over that wonderfull forum about this magic skin!

OK, I've edited before getting flamed rofl, tweaked the volum mapping controls and works a treat!
Getting the hardware in the car an looking pretty is my thing, I rely on you guys for the software tweaks and help.

Well, How did you tweak the volume mapping controls? Could you send me the ini file or some info about what you did or where to search the answer? Thanks in Advance

I am using the newer version of the RRConfig.exe which has a very nice GUI which is easy to configure RR (new compared to RRConfig I was using previously). I got the "new" RRconfig from the latest RR download. I know the volume setting was in the old version of RRConfig though so check your RRconfig, it simply maps the RR volume to the "Master" volume on your PC if you look through there should be a drop down menu as I remember the default setting was "All lines".

Sorry to not be more exact I'm on the PC indoors, I'll check the car and let you know the exact setting later...

OK I went out and looked I think the setting in my ini file is this one: mastervolmap=0
I also attached the zipped RR.ini if it helps

I have recently got myself a USB DAB radio receiver and car indoor car antenna, and created a very crude skin for Simplistique for it. Performance (reception) is very good (much better than my FM). Works very well in Cardiff and London - though not very good on the motorway in between. The software is awful too.

In case anyone else was after decent DAB radio in the UK here's what I've got:
- MTech A1 USB DAB (http://www.mtech.com.tw/productsconsumer_udr.htm)
- DAB only internal glass mounted aerial with amplifier (as seen here: http://www.bluespot.co.uk/dab.asp)
- homemade connector to fit the two together

I'm looking to update my car PC soon with a fresh new look for Simplistique and hopefully a solid state solution (my HD sometimes causes the PC to crash so I think its on its way out). SSDs are a bit pricey at the moment so mite look into sticking windows on a flash drive. Also need to update GPS and TV card hardware/software.

PLAN:
- New GPS mapping software and mods to fit in with the new skin
- New FM software hacks to fit in with the new skin
- Stick Windows on a flash/SSD drive
- New digiTV hardware
- Add phone functionality and properly integrate it to skin
- Add new skin features such as easy music transfer from USB stick and Google mapping etc
- New hardware for permanent connection to internet for car PC (3G USB datacard)

When I get all this done I'll post the skins here for download.

Skin modifications I've seen are excellent (some are a bit busy taking away the simplistic-ness of Simplistique but very nice nonetheless). Keep up the good work. I will do my best to make the new revamped skin as feature-packed as possible and incorporate all these added features.

I bought a Silabs USB radio from Azzuri @ azzuri.com I think enforcer or another user has tried it and made a skin for it, I only received mine yesterday so haven't looked at integrating it yet or checking out available skins, its a nice simple .exe that runs from anywhere, might be worth a look.

I used FreeFone to integrate my mobile into my carPC, works well but I have my mobile on O2 so I get free internet access, I use the blue tooth to get internet access but this then blocks FreeFone from accessing the phone using the bluetooth port (still looking at this one, may try xport).

I removed the TV icon and replaced it with a 0 lux webcam, this then opens the Philips capture software, I was planning to have this record a small video & audio file and email it should the wrong access code be entered more than twice. Main reason for this was I couldn't get any TV reception using a pinnacle USB TV/Radio tuner and gave up after a short time.

I removed the DVD icon and replaced it with a WiFi button which then opens NetStumbler for plotting access points using the GPS. I didn't plan on a DVD drive in my install so no need for the button.

I did add the petrol skin to the radio button only to find that there's not plugin for the UK available at present, so the plan is to "switch" the skin back to the radio skin now I have my silabs USB radio.

GPS, well I'm having mixed success with MapMonkey, I have the latest UK maps and surprisingly my house is on it (normally it doesn't show up as its only been built 5 years) but other addresses which have been around longer than me don't show? I'm now looking at iGuidance to see if it's more reliable, I'm used to good old TomTom who's never really done wrong by me, if iGuidance fails I may look at using the free emulator from Microsoft to get TomTom running on PC.

I really like the idea of using SD card to run the OS, I've lost 2 100GB 2.5" drives in my 1st CarPC I assume due to vibration, both drives were mounted on rubber feet to reduce the effects of the car moving but still they didn't last long and my latest PC seems to be going the same way. I might move the OS to a 4GB flash drive and have the media on a removable 2.5" HDD in a mini caddy.

This is my 2nd real CarPC install and TBH, your skin gives the whole CarPC install an OEM "professional" look to it, many thanks to you for starting the project and a big thanks to everyone who contributed to it in this thread, many of the things I wanted to implement some one else had already done the work, making my install a lot easier.



I would post my work on the skin but its mainly slight variations on whats already available in this thread.



Looking forward to the new skin (try not to make us wait too long ) and GL with your Uni stuff.

PS: Just a thought! do you think with the new skin you could also provide a "blank" skin with no icons or text for the buttons so we can map the buttons add text and icons as needed for our builds?

I have skinbedder launching and grabbing VAG-COM however the buttons dont seem to work. Can anyone give me any advise? Heres my skinbedder VAG-COM folder:


Does anyone have any idea where Im going wrong? Want get this finished and shared up!
