well i donated $50 for dfx4 and was planning on donating again for version 5... by putting it in the marketplace at $5 would be a great savings for me. so hell yes, $5 sounds more then fair. you deserve to get something back in return for this skin, there is nothing else out there even close in comparison.
the only problem i foresee is people will probably be on your back even more john about bug fixes and stuff... so be ready for that. but i wouldnt worry about it, $5 is a minimal fee.
Five $$ is a gift to all DFX users (just chump change people). I don't have a problem paying for this skin at all john / blue. Keep it Rockin'!!!!! :tune:

Absolutely! That's chump-change compared to what we get! Guino should do the same!
Personally I think this is a can of worms.
Someone wants to charge a fee for a skin for a free FE.
OK now $5 is not much, but what if other skin developers looked at this and said Ok, he's charging, so will I.
Then of course plugin developers go, wait a minute hes charging for a skin, which uses my plugins, maybe I should charge for my plugins.
The $5 dollar becomes $10, becomes $50 etc.
Soon the price of RR becomes more than that of a paid for FE like CF, where the plugins and skins (in the most part) are free.
Whilst RR is a free (donation ware) FE, I think the skins and plugins should be as well.
I also think it strange coming from someone who has probably received the most donations for his work (maybe Guino has had more, I have counted) that he now wants to charge.
I believe John has earned every penny he would like to recoup. But I wanted to add: With it becoming a purchased product, comes responsibility. You could be overwhelmed with support and even more worms to deal with.
Enforcer..what's the difference between this and what you did with iDrive SE in order for some of us to get a copy.?
Personally I don't care either way. Free products that I use religiously I tend to give donations to the creators anyway, and as such, I was planning to make a donation for DFX5. So $5 is certainly less than I would have donated, so it's fine with me. I can see Enforcer's point, but I'm not sure I see that happening. In my opinion people who tend to make free software aren't generally guided by creating a product to make money. Then again, with donations, I'm not sure how much difference a creator of such a product sees in the bottom line, when taking donations over charging a price. I also agree by charging a fee, you are certainly more obligated to having a finer tuned product with timely bug fixes and such. That's just the nature of the beast. I think it's a hard decision to make. But a one time fee for $5 is fair, as would a one time $5 fee for RR (free updates included). $10 dollars would be fair to me. However, I also think some people simply won't use it because it costs money (especially newbies who join up and really aren't familiarized with RR and all that goes into it and all the skins).

I have donated in the past to your efforts and applaud your continual striving to improve this skin. It is far and away the best thing out there.
How about offering a free version with a Nag Screen at every startup? This will allow those users who cannot afford $5.00 (but they have a car and a carputer - I call that cheap) to use your software, with a constant reminder that they should pay up.
Also, how about allowing those who want to generously donate more than $5.00 to do so and provide some type of perk.
You will also have to look into the licensing agreement of the plug-ins you use and code to ensure you are not liable for compensating someone else out of your pocket...
