I believe $5 will be a low/fair price. In fact that's more on the low donation range rather than a real selling price. However that could make some people to believe they're buying a software piece and could lead to specific requests to the developers (I don't want to discourage you to do the $5/$10/$20 fee or whatever you believe its fair, just to warn you about that behavior from "certain customers" could very well happen and you guys just be prepared how to deal with it).

By the other hand I see Enforcer's point which I respect, however if that becomes a trend (where a plugin/skin developers will look to charge a fee for their creations) then all developers looking for that revenue better create quality software like John and Blue have made, otherwise I personally won't pay a penny and I believe most people won't either. In other words it will only going to depend on the quality of the product made by each developer.

We're in though economic times and money is a necessity. I don't see how that small contribution will brake the bank of anyone that already has paid a lot more for a PC to be in their vehicles.

While I have no compunction either way, I planned on donating. The question you should consider is taxes. Gift donations thru paypal no one tracks, but officially selling might have to get reported by mp3 car. I only say this because I got slapped with a 1099 once on a no tax job for a non profit. Maybe a handy link that nags you a few times to donate before you download? I see enforcer's point, but the level of effort gone into this is far beyond most any other app or skin. That and guiano is getting paid but just in a different way. Hence maybe the please donate to download, no really please, okay fine here you go. Or set up a page where it and all updates are free after 30 days.

$5 is cheap and shouldn't hurt too many of the masses. I intend to donate my customary $20, bianually anyway, but that's just me. John has always been super responsive to my requests, and I will continue to support him, new skin or not, pay to play or not.

John will you be able to add the donation link on with the mobile app mart so those of us that wanna give more can do so?

i totally agree with enforcer, i do not agree with this decisions, and if is going to happend, thing that im sure it will, sadly im forced to ask the 2 authors to remove any of my PI's from this skin. i don't charge nothing...

Thank you everyone for your supports and understanding. This was not an easy decission to try to come to here, and I really apreceiate all the positive feedback.

Enforcer, you have a good point, and I totally respect 100% of what you are saying. I am taking many things into concideration, and figuring out the best way to go about this.

You offer your plugins for absolutely free, however you seem to be expecting to be compensated at the same time. Is this also not a way to be paid for the extensive time and effort that you have put into your plugins as well?



I am thinking of other ways to go about this as well.... Possibly offering the skin absolutely free, and having a different "internal" Splash screen as the skin starts up saying this is the free version or something. This way there is NO NAG SCREEN to contend with, as that screen is there anyways when RR starts up. No extra delay, and nothing to click through.



If someone decides to get the version in the MP3Car Store, the splash screen would return to the normal, and user changable one.



As a note, this would be a ONE TIME THING, and there will never be any charge for any updates ever.



As a final note, this is just one of many many skins available for RR. If someone does not want to purchase the skin, there are tons of free alternatives! I find the same to hold true with most of the software I use on my computers. You can pay for Photoshop, or you can use GIMP for free. You can pay for MS Office, or download the free Open Office suite. There will always be paid and free software for just about everything.

I don't disagree with the idea of us developers getting compensated for our work.

What i do disagree with, at present, is the charging for skins or PI's for a FE which is free.

Both you and I (as well as a number of other skin & PI developers) have donation links, which is fine.

However I have also provided downloaders a way of contributing towards my hosting and bandwidth costs in a way that does not cost them anything. The fact that people still feel they can't do that (not one click this month, despite many downloads of plugins and skins, NB this is not just limited to RR plugins) disappoints me, hence the signature.

I Totally respect and understand where you are coming from 100%. It would work, as the way it does with Enforcer's plugins for all of the past releases. The skins and support are in the skin, and the user just needs to go to the authors thread or page to download and install the plugin on their own for any additional features that they want to use.

well, big difference is that either of my PI's are not allowed to be used in this skin, sorry....

I have to say in my defense that I look for the adds to click through exactly because of your signature. I feel you have a valid point ant that is the least I can do. Now some of my IE8 settings may be involved, but it is not very obvious where I am supposed to click so that you will get your credit.
