I really dont use headphones, no ipod or discman. I do tend to crank it sometimes in the car but not the trunk vibrating low rider level (although im capable

Heh true, 192k sampling gets past that barrier for cd's with SACD offering a greater sample rate and cd's naturally have a grater dynamic range, which with the greater sampling makes them sound just as good.

Unfortunately, that assumes the recording studio has not compressed the dynamic range to make the CD louder for the teen crowd. Either way I've scratched the living hell out of cd's and had them play reasonably well, vinyl just is not as sturdy of a medium.

Then again the last audio CD I bought was, hrmmm 2 months into my freshmen year (1998). viva la mp3!

Like I said, to each his own. I'll take sounding good with a free little plugin over thousands of dollars of equipment for "accuracy" - especially in a noisy car environment - any day.

I agree with you. People that spend ridiculous amounts of money on car audio don't make sense to me. But hey, it's not my car or my money, so whatever.

I once downloaded 4-5 ring tones, from 15KHz to 22KHz. Supposedly professors in class wouldn't hear it, only the students - that was the idea at least, and it worked with me: Couldn't hear much at all past 16K, but then again I was listening to it on Creative Computer Speakers (they say it's thx certified), but they should play 18KHz fine, I just didn't hear *****. No idea if a phone could reproduce anything past 10KHz anyway (it was a ringtone), so I didn't care.

On the bright side, after years going to raves and live rock concerts plus sportbike riding (no plugs on a daily basis, only on trips) means I can save a lot of money now buying substandard audio now! LOL

i only have infinity kappa's and a late model kenwood amp for the drivers, alpine type r and pioneer digital amp for the sub, and a pioneer headunit. in all, it cost me about $700 for the whole sound system.

I actually think this moved to the broader debate of the utility of DSPs rather than Winamp per se. This thread is on its last breath anyway due to the imminent release of 5.0, which will trigger a new thread.
