Thanks, Jebus. I wasn't worried about the $5.00, but wanted to stick with my current soundcard if possible. I will take your advice on this one.
I'm using the Stereo USB Microphone Audio Adapter with the bundled Andrea stereo mic.
It is the Software, I believe, that offers the Noise cancellation, Without it you have just a stereo mic...
The two together work probably 100 times better than a regular mic and soundcard...
For the price, you are getting a very good value, and a VR input device that has no equal...

Great demo, John! My system works pretty well now but I'll happily pull it out to add in the needed voice control hardware.
One question, can you control the equalizer functions by voice? Hopefully I won't need to access the equalizer much after getting DFX5 and the updated RRMedia, but I'm just curious. Thanks!

RR works perfectly in win7/vista. thats not the issue... its the plugins, mainly RRvoice, that doesnt. there are a ton of reasons why windows 7 is a great os for carpc's, so many in fact that i honestly think i will not have voice support in my car because ive tried to go back to xp, and its nothing but a pain. there are also things that people are trying to customize winXP to do that windows longhorn os's do out-of-the-box- example microphone enhancements.
but mainly its the fact that writing for xp is limiting people to only one os, whereas if you write for windows longhorn you pretty much have 3 os's covered (once win8 releases). and dont get me started on windowsXP again, what a clunky old frustrating piece of software that is!
Hmm...
Well you can whip out your .Net 3.0 and create one...
Or you can donate me a copy of Win7 and I'll write one????
LOL on the OP system preferences...I'll try to incite...
You have to get to know an OP System to utilize it to it's fullest...
I am running Win2k on most of my boxes and have been since '99
It has been very reliable, never have to reinstall/reformat
I just laugh when I hear people doing that.
I run Home Automation, VFD displays, a security system, and more on these boxes. I never have any issues that can't be fixed with a couple of clicks. I have two XP boxes now and they never fail. I run TONS of code on my Win2k dev box and it never stops, or pitches up the BSOD.
I have a wheelchair bot that runs Win2k server and is controlled remotely, from a desktop. It's a kick to bring it out when company is over, and have it speak and answer questions. (OpenMind Database) It will also shove you along the carpet, while you are sitting on a chair.
I have all the .Nets installed and code running against the framework on 2K.
The truth is that most issues are caused by the user or bad hardware.
That cheap MB with its flakey caps will get ya. Or a bad chunk of ram, with a bit that wont set, will give you hell.
22 years of working with PC's and getting to know how they work pays off.

Need to come up with donations for a copy of Windows 7 for Jebus. Jebus set up a PayPal and well donate.
Jebus what version of Win7 do you need? Home, Premium, Ultimate and 32 or 64bit?
Win7 32bit - home - 32bit or 64bit OEM $89
Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit or 64bit - OEM $179
Windows 7 home - Full $179
Windows 7 Ultimate - Full $269
I just did a quick proof of concept in win7, with system.speech
and its about one of the easiest thing to do
and works so well...
basically, i created a list of commands, told the speech recognition engine about them
and it just worked
so... jebus, do you want to do a .net3.5 version of your rrvoice? i can give you one of my msdn licensees for win7
let me know
(not to mention to myself, this isnt the right thread for this)
Mitch
-Thanks

Wow, lots to cover
I have the bundled package. It is not as much of a "sound card" as you think of it, but really just a USB input device that the mic plugs into and then plugs into a USB port. There are no outputs on it like a normal sound card, and does not mess in any way with the settings for your sound card in Windows or in RR in any way. You will just have 2 mic's to choose from when setting up the Voice recognition. Which I like, as I can use the other standard mic for the front facing camera audio and such.
It is necessary, as the microphone is powered. The circuitry in the mic, and on the board need power to analyze and do the on-board noise cancellation.
No, I didn't create voice commands for the EQ. Some things are just far easier to tap the screen for.
It can easily be set up with some commands like:
"Set EQ slider 50khz to 60 percent". After saying all that about 10 times for each of the EQ's, I think you fill find just tapping the screen is far easier
Hey, this thread has so many posts, a few more will not hurt anything hahah.

I can understand that people may have switched to Win7, and this is a personal preference. As far as it "limiting" The plugins or skin, please refer to the video posted aboveSeriously though, My system is running the way I want, and is very stable. It goes into and out of S3 standby perfectly, and thus turns on just as quick as a head unit would when you start the car. I personally have no reason at all to move to Win7 on the CarPC.
Hey, not true! I think I have broken my hardship run finally! Case and point, I was in this helicopter on a Monday morning, and it did not go down with me in it, it happened 3 days later(My friend did suffer a broken leg, but both on board survived).
(Sorry for the crappy image, used my iPhone to take a picture of the TV screen LOL)
LOL I DID say in the bug thread:
Dare I say, I told you soI am gonna put up "just a little something" in the DFX thread today, for you to have a look at. I can bet within a couple of weeks, you are on your back on the floor of the car running new wires![]()
