2. how does your avs display and how would you like it to display?
Inside the LSTOOLS\ALT folder there are alternate main menus that have big and small vis windows

3. Be very carefull editing the stuff in that file, esp the custom buttons. One typeo can screw everything up.

There are about 10 things that need to be done to properly setup a custom button, but if you only want to add a command to be used on the custom buttons that are already present (main menu/audio player) it only needs a few steps but is still a little involved.

First i will say this guide is based on the local copy of ExecTBL.ini i have and will be included in the update. The file is mostly all the same format except i have used up more of the FREE buttons.
I have purposely left buttons 50-55 blank. There may be more that are blank in your copy but pretend that they arent black as they will be linked to other things in the update.

Step 1.
Check that there are enough entries for your command you want to add, if not you'll have to add more entries.

The first line looks like this

Code:

"MAINBT1","BYVAR;MAINBUTTON1;$TOPAPPS$”

and continues all the way to MAINBT62
If you want to add a entries that are higher than 62 you'll have to make another entry at the end.

Code:

"MAINBT63","BYVAR;MAINBUTTON63;$TOPAPPS$”

also check that the line that starts like this
"SETTOPAPPSALL"
also goes all the way up to the same number
This step is ONLY required if there are no free buttons for you to use.

Next:
below the line that says "Step 1 add or modify app..."
you will find all the available commands that are active.
"AP50","" - "AP55","" should all be blank.
This is where you want to add your commands.
To add a command for "AP50","" for example the AUDIO command the line would look like this
"AP50","AUDIO"

Next:
you want to setup the label that will be used for you to recognize the button on the custom button chooser screen.
Directly under the line that says "Step 2 add app Button Name..."
Find where is says <<=FREE50 and change it to what you want the name of the button to be.

Next:
now you want to setup what the actual button once chosen is going to look like in the skin.
Directly under where it says "Step 3 add Menu Label..."
Find the line that looks like this

Code:

"SETUPMENULABEL50","SETVAR;AP50LB;=FREE51||SETUPMENULABEL51"

note: the numbers on this line are 50 and 51, it may seem like you are setting up the wrong label since is says FREE51, but you are doing it correct. Change FREE 51 to be the same name as what you want the buttons label to look like.

Ignore the area where is says
-----Main Menu Top Buttons-HOLD Commands----

this area is only for editing the actual .skin files and requires a lot more steps and is a tad bit more confusing. Its also not in chronological order in the .skin files so its super easy to screw something up.

Thats pretty much it.
if you have problems dont worry, just double tripple check your file. I even have issues adding commands myself cuz i forget one step.

Here are some pics i was able to take before my camera died on me, crappy *** Walgreen's batteries.
The pic of the tree on the garage, there was another whole tree blocking the other side also, we towed it out of the way before i took the shot.
This is just the **** directly in my yard, its much worse for my neighbors, we got lucky. Ill try to take some picks of the rest of the neighborhood later.
The lady across the street from me has a tree thats wedged inside her kitchen and the people next door had a trampline that is now a block away on someones roof. And the poor people at the corner have an entire tree roots and all sitting on there roof.

Thanks for the quick post and the instruction. SOrry to see those pics though..

Also, if i didnt want to add an AUDIO command but maybe an external call like \foo.exe, or maybe a .\foo.skin file, how would i do that?

When RR starts, How do i stop the vis from running on startup?
When RR starts, How do i start the playlist in the same position without actually having the music start?

I got this from another post. I think it was LS that posted it..

To stop it from loading do this.
Load ExecTBL.ini (found inside the skin folder)
scroll to bottom of file and edit the "LSONSKINSTART" command

If you dont want Vis or Welcome to autostart simply put a forward slash at the beggining

/"LSONSKINSTART","VISU||RUN;LSTOOLS\welcomeMSG\welc ome.exe"
begin of line.displays the welcome message.

damn LS.. looks like you had alot of winds there. we had some and i had to go down the alley and grab one of my garbage cans, but no carnage like that. When I seen the warning about the winds im like wtf are they talking about.. there not that bad!!! lol. guess i was wrong.

I just noticed a new RR update, so ill be waiting and looking forward to the LS update. Any news on the day version? just curious. btw, the 22nd were meeting at the gameworks in schaumburg for the meet. from noon till whenever. I know I always invite ya, one of these days youll make it :P remember if you do show, the first couple beers are on me. Y.

yeah, they are calling it a microburst or something where the wind shoots down in a localized area (instead of tornado's that travel in a line). Kind of like a death ray from outter space (LOL), but the microburst winds only affect the high trees and such, which makes since cuz no bushes or smaller trees damaged anywhere at all, but tons of high trees were broken up and some yanked from there roots. Just finished with complete clean up 2 days ago.

as far as the updates go etc, its ok to use the RR update i havnt seen any issues, there is actually some small features already supported in the current release that only work with the latest rr upate, like the shuffle/repeat status label on the main menu.
The day version is coming along good, i did a test run of it in my car a few days ago at noon and again at 2-3 and it increases the daytime visibility a whole lot compared to the night version. Most of the screens (about 90%) have daytime graphics (off/on states) just a few to create. Theres a few new screens in the night version also and im toying with updating the PhoCo screens even though i vowed to not touch them in the past.

So between not having power for almost a week, cleaning up trees etc and now Ive been sick the last few days i havnt been able to push the latest update out when i wanted to (2weeks ago) but it should be soon and the day version will come with the update and ill prob close this thread at that time and open a new one.
