congrats on the home purchase John. I went through the same thing last October. Many long nights of painting and fixing stuff. It gets easier, trust me...

Just a quick post, hope to be back to the skin here soon. The move to the new house went well, now its a matter of painting, unpacking, and setting up the Home Automation for lights, security and A/C / Heating control.

Yeah, that's the one, EasyObdII 2.x. I say sort of embedded because the edges of the window on all four sides are cut off at 640x480. All the buttons are reachable and the info is readable, just not pretty. Anyway, that's for another thread.
Hey John, are you going to make a HousePC ?
Elantra GT 1.2GHz Duron, RoadRunner & LSX Void 3.2. Status: Stable...
I figured it was going to take a couple of months more to settle in than it does the typical first-time homebuyer since you'll be setting up things so you can push a button in your car and have a four-course meal automatically prepared and ready for you by the time you return home.![]()
Yea, I also made a "House PC". It controls lighting, A/C, security and such. It also doubled as a MediaCenter PC in the living room. I have a couple touch screens that will be placed in the walls to control everything.
I don't know about dinner prepared, but I can check the status of the house, turn lights on and off ect from my phone or from the CarPC.

Awwww C'mon I like hearing about stuff I had in the 80's (and miss it now). My X-10s are now limited to perimeter security and bedroom lighting, whereas my house in Vegas had everything voice controlled from the sprinklers and pool heater to auto garage openers and closers, hell it even alerted me if there was mail in the box. My family kept asking me. "well can you make it do this... can it do that... let's see you add this too. And like a dare, I go off and make it happen. By the time I sold the house, it was hooked into everything but the stove and the vacuum (we didn't have rombots back then). The hallways would automagically light up as you strode to the kitchen for a midnight snack and I added six channels to my cable for outside cameras, VCR, DVD as well as callerIDTV. The cameras would videotape whenever the PIR sensor was tripped and even send a text message to my phone when I wasn't home and a link to a still of the intruder.
Good luck with the house. Just think of your escapades in the carPC realm and triple the price (OBTW, homeseer is another of those neverending projects).

Ok John, now you have peaked my interest a bit more in the home automation area. Specifically for one problem - I'm a bit obsessive compulsive on "did I remember to shut the garage door". So being able to check the door status, or shut the door would be fantastic. Not sure I want the ability to open the door remotely (I work in network security, so maybe I'm a bit paranoid).
Congrats on the house.
I have my system set up that if I leave, or go to sleep, it will automatically shut the garage door. (The door came with a safety IR beam so if something is in the way it will not close).
Not to clutter up the MP3Car forums with the Home Automation stuff, you can check out CocoonTech.com's forums. It is as good and helpful of a forum community that you find here at MP3Car forums. I have been on those forums personally for like 5 years now.
