The information is from 4 different sources, the original file, a file from the US Census bereau, Toasters file, and another website that I found that had the ability to convert large lists of zips to lats and lons.

Unfortunately, there really is no way that I can verify the accuracy of any of the information, so I included them all, and some of the information was VERY DIFFERENT. It should, however, help with the "resolution", meaning, that there are more lats and lons to compare your current lat and lon to, as there could be up to 4 coordinates for a single zip code.

The file is a little large, and as of yet, I haven't really been able to test it out, so, I am looking for like 5 people that I can send the file to to test it out. e-mail me at [email protected], and I will e-mail the file to you tomorrow. Make sure you can accept zip files as large as 2 megs.

That zip code change is probably not just a replacement number, but has broken up into 2 zip codes now. They do that quite often here when an area has a large population growth. It really makes no sense to just change a zip code from one number to another.

Here is whats in the zips.dat that was posted a couple posts back:
    “17201”,”39.9333”,”-77.6578”,”CHAMBERSBURG”,”PA”,”FRANKLIN”,”STANDARD”
    “17201”,”39.931318”,”-77.657928”,”CHAMBERSBURG”,”PA”,”FRANKLIN”,”STANDAR D”
    “17201”,”39.908055”,”-77.666445”,”CHAMBERSBURG”,”PA”,”FRANKLIN”,”STANDAR D”
    “17201”,”39.931123”,”-77.661394”,”CHAMBERSBURG”,”PA”,”FRANKLIN”,”STANDAR D”

Would you like the ability to set certain points, using Latitude and Longitude, and know when you are "in range" of that location, and have that code built into Road Runner? (Pressing a "Save Location" button could pop-up an OSK to name the location, and save it for further reference) You could also sit at home and build the .ini "Database" with key places in your area, and then just transfer the .ini file to the car.

    Examples of use would be:

-Warn you a half mile before a toll road so you can get change out in time
-Tell you are approaching a tunnel so if you are on the phone, you don’t just get cut off, and also warn you about iminate GPS dropout.

-Warning you of a known speed trap area
    - Set gas station location on remote roads, to warn you if say you are passing the last gas station for a couple hundred miles, to remind you to make sure you have enough gas.
-And one of my favorites! “Tourist mode” Liquid Smoke thought this one up. You could have area’s set up, that when you were driving, fire a script to speak commands to you, based on your location. Such as “Attention the house where Charlie Brown was born is the large yellow and black house coming up on the $direction$ side” ($Direction$ being Left or Right, calculated based on your direction of travel)
-Using scripting and putting the date in the notes field, you could have reminders / events only on certain days. The script fires, looks at the date today, compares that to the notes field and could come up with something on your drive home, and you get close to where you should turn to go to your bank. It could trigger something like “Today is Friday, remember to stop at the bank” Or leaving work could trigger “Today is Wednesday, remember to pick up little Johnny from soccer practice”
-(Tossing the data to a script and doing some time calculation) On the way to work “Dunk N’ Donuts is just ahead if you want to stop for coffee. You will have to make it quick though, as you only have 17 minutes to get to work” Or on those off days, “You do not have time to stop for coffee this morning or you will be late for work “
    - Your car "Knowing" that you have pulled into your driveway at home, and can trigger events, such as syncing files, uploading info to your wireless network such as GPS tracks or anything else to a folder on a HomePC.
    - Road Hazard warnings, such as area's of bad road, Bridges that can potentially ice in cold weather, dangerous intersections ect.

With the code built into Road Runner, the sky is the limit to what could be done, based on the ini file that contains the Lat & Lon for a location. It could speak to get your attention, take you to any skin screen, a Pop-up window, a .wav file played... ect ect. The type of action taken, based on the location, is also saved in the ini, so a different action can be taken for each event. For instance, if you are approaching an area you have deemed as a speed trap, and ONLY if you are going over the speed limit, or no matter what speed you are going (All set in the .ini file) a skin with a large display of your speed could be shown for a given number of seconds, before returning to normal RR operation.

So, what does everyone think of this, would this be something useful added into Road Runner?
woh, that would be totally sick, I could think of a lot of uses for something like this...

    save title and arists

So I've been hitting the "save title and artist" button in XM for a few months now, I've finally got around to looking these songs up and I've realized that the list is nowhere to be found. I've looked for about an hour now and have a feeling its right under my nose. Any clues?
athlon 1400+, 512mb, some onboard crap, SB Live 5.1, 7" touch lilly, and some really nice speakers/amps.

What do you mean the GPS "doesn't seem to load" What is the GPS you are refering to? Glopabl Positionion Satelites DO NOT LOAD.

While, I posted earlier that I had updated the ZIPS.DAT file, but it was premature. There were issues with the file, but I have finally resolved 99.9 percent of the issues. The only issue that I have, and it is on 2 different machines, is that it appears that the file is just too damn large now. Basically, when the file is complete, with EVERY zip code, RR just doesn't display the location, it remains blank. However, when I removed everything but the entries for my state, it worked perfectly, and it is definitely more accurate. I would suggest that anyone who wants to use this file, limit it to a few states worth if the entire file doesn't work on your system. Just right click on the file, choose open with and then wordpad (I like wordpad more than notepad for this, though both will probably work fine), and then highlight and delete everything you want removed, then just save the file again, and you are good to go.

As for the person who asked about the new zip codes, I am pretty sure it is not updated, since the "newest" source of the information was from 2000. You can manually change the zips yourself, just open the file into wordpad, and change the zip codes accordingly, but DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE, or it might cause problems. Something as simple as changing a quote (can't tell you how long and hard it took me to figure out that the font/type of quote throws of the file" could render it useless. So, be carefull.

I have attached the complete file. Hope it works out for everyone.

I DO NOT GUARANTEE THE ACCURACY OF THE FILE, it is a compilation of zips and lats and lons from 4 different sources, and each source was different. Which is right and which is wrong I have no idea, however, they may all be correct, since the lat and lon can be measured at different locations within a zip code, like the Post office, or library, or center of the zip, or who knows what. If something is wrong, just go in and change it.

RR does not sync with the gps receiver. I always get 0 satellites. I'm not in the house, its outside and its correctly installed, the the com ports matching with the rr config, but rr does not want to work the the gps and get any satellites.
