I was toying with the idea of writing a tool to extract states from the master data file and create a smaller one to use. So, for me in NH, I could use this tool to extract NH, MA, CT, ME, NY...etc. Then it would be like iGuidance where you use the extractor to build a relevant map db.
Thanks! That solves it.
Hello all,
This is my first post, and I apologize in advance if this is posted in the wrong section. First of all I want to say that this forum is awesome, allot of useful information, and this skin for roadrunner rocks. I pretty much have everything I want on RR working except for when I open up GPS stats it's not giving me my location (I attached a screen shot with the empty fields highlighted in yellow).
I searched around for hours, and almost read (skimmed through) all 130 pages of this thread.
also if it helps I'm running Iguidance.
Thank you for any help u can give me or pointing me to threads discussing this.

K, my last attempt with the ZIPS.DAT file.

the lat long displays correctly, just edited to deter the crazy's from my doorsteps lol. I replaced the zips.dat in RR root dir and also added it to the digital fx folder, still the same prob. I'll search around more. thank you for your reply.
Edit: unfortunately when I search for zip.dat it brings me back here, any more info would greatly be appreciated (that's allot of pages to skim through).
Thank you
Oh come on!!!!! you are not giving up so easily I hope! This is a fantastic addition and correction to the database that everyone has been complaining about the accuracy of, since the release of the "Gas Price Finder plug-in".
You have managed to make this database something like 4 times more accurate! (Be it with a couple bugs and corrections along the way....)
Try putting together a skin with like 40 different screens, 10 different plugins, OCX' & DLL registration with the installer, maintaining the help file, and try to stay on top of the largest thread that has ever come around on MP3Car, as well as maintaining a full time job!
I originally designed this skin for my own personal use, and it has seemed to grow from there, like I never ever could have expected!
Sure.... it takes a bit of time to work on something to get all the kinks and bugs worked out like that huge 8 meg zips database of yours. But, when all is said and done, it can be pretty rewarding to say that...yea, I did that!
And to think, that database was originally designed for just gas price finding. From there it has turned into labels in RR to show your city based on where you are, and a way to find weather from your current location......who knows what may be next!
To anyone out there, that is using this database for things, be patient, and not so quick to complain...... it is a work in progress, and bugs will be found, and stomped out.
On that note, I have to get some sleep! I have been out drinking with some friends, (MUCH needed break) and am actually not in any state of mind to post anything, but I have done so, and babbled on anyhow! Thanks goodness for Fire Fox and its red underline reminding you that you have misspelled something! hahaahah.
On top of that, I have a new little girl here I just bought last night......(Get your minds out of the gutter people!) a Schitzu puppy. House training can be added to the list of my day job, skin, thread maintaining, and now dog trainer! hahahaha If anyone is interested, I can post a pic that is totally unrelated to anything CarPC related, but will easily show why I decided to do it
PS I had a male schitzu already, and thought he could use some companionship.... something that just about anyone reading this can understand hahah!
Now, time to get some sleep, and then read this post tomorrow, and then think to myself.... damn, did I post all of that?!?!?!
Play around with life, Keep a smile on your face, and have some fun along the way!

My Fiero Build Thread
Hello John, could you give me some pointers to help me with my problem?
EDIT: ok i'm a little slow tonight, suppose I can edit zips.dat to include my location, lol. sorry guys.
EDIT2: hmm. my location was already in the file, now i'm clueless.
EDIT3: ok, I read through this whole thread. I've tried taking out all states but mine (OR), and still doesn't show. the line localdatacaptureinterval=1 has been added to rr.ini. Is there something else I'm overlooking? I've read that if you put in the com port# in rrconfig the gps won't work, but when I take it out of rrconfig the gps gauges won't work at all, when the # is in rrconfig the gauges work. I'm using xport to split the com ports and everything seems to be working (iguidance, gauges, and gas finder), only my location under gps stats isn't working.
Thank you for any help you guys can provide me.
