Using flash8 outlined in another post and using the 4in1 via drivers and I'm still averaging around 35% - 40% cpu usage with spikes upto 85% - 100%

Try removing USB devices one at a time to see if it makes a difference. I had a USB to serial adapter that was using close to 50% of my CPU.
The only usb devices I have running are the touch screen, gps and a external hd & external cd player. The only new thing I added was the gps and that didn't make a difference. And until I received my usb header cables the only thing I had running was the TS & external hd. Something else is eating up my cpu ?

you might have your " file indexing" ,that is turned on. when you hook up external HD. windows turns it on , so it can find files faster. So, when your computer is at idle . window starts indexing your HD. That could be reason for the extra CPU load.

if you unplug your external HD. and plug it back in. And you see it scanning files. then it is turned on for that drive.

it does have indexing option for the " C " ( main ) HD , too.

    Check that out.

edit : I did not see if you check to see if your CPU load is the same whit out RR running. Is it?

also check your " Window Task Manager " , " Processes " tab . See what items are using the CPU load.

Good point! OPen task manager, and click on the header title for the CPU column, to sort them from highest usage to lowest, and see whats bouncing around the top of the list.

I had a setup that was working fairly well and I saw there was a new version of the config tool available. When I ran it the first time, it did a lot of stuff. Even downloaded a new winamp DLL. After it finished, RR/DFX is extremely unstable. I have had many system hangs where I had to use TaskManager to kill RR. When I do this, I can't create playlists anymore. Another problem I have ended up with is that music & XM will not mute or lower volume when using iGuidance. I have tried everything and can't get it to work correctly.

I tried tossing the rr.ini and recreating it, but that has introduced a number of other problems.

Is some of the config info (either for RR or DFX) being written to the registry now? I feel like I have very little control over what changes on my system. This really sucks. Right now I feel like RR and DFX are both very unstable...and causing the system to be unstable as well.

Has anyone else run into anything like this? The config tool I used was from 9/16. I know there is now a newer one, but the damage is done.

    Gentlemen,

I'm painfully new at the whole carpc thing, so much more new at roadrunner. I am currently using Digital FX for my skin and I can't figure out how to get my external application to show up in the external application list. I appologize if this is in the wrong section but so far my searches for the subject have come up empty.

I appreciate all you guys do, great stuff you're coming up with.

take a look at the "Launch" folder. This should give you a general idea of what you need to do. Also, look here: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/rr-f...cation-rr.html

I would be more than happy to address any problems that you think you have or anything else about the new config tool, but this is not the thread to do this in.

If you would like to further discuss this, please go to the config thread and it will be addressed.

PS. The only thing that gets written to the registry is the added settings for the actuall config, nothing else.

What RR verion were you running prior to using the new config. There are reasons the config did what it did. As of the 9-2 RR Release, when using winamp, now requires the dll file that the config both DL'ed and registered for you.

I hate to say it, Meisner, but I'm experiencing issues as well. Here is a list:

    1. I, like you, am no longer able to get music to mute when iGuidance speaks.

    2. At one point something happened that appeared to corrupt my rr.ini. When I tried to load RR it wouldn't load and I got a funny screen. I then went into rrconfig and redesignated DFX as the skin to use and RR then loaded properly.

    3. When running RR/DFX/ig4, every now and then my route will cancel for no apparent reason.

    4. Though I can create, save and load playlists, the process doesn't appear to be as stable as it once was.

There have been so many changes lately (new RR version, new DFX version, new RRConfig, upgrade to ig4) that I don't know how to begin troubleshooting.
