Hi John,

i like your skin ,so i decided to make some skinning job ,to have freefone ,phoco,MM, Destinator 6,and Hqct embedded .They are working very stable, the only thing i couldn't managed so far ,is to make gps gauges working with Destinator 6 , or MM.I 've already installed Xport, but i don't know how to connect my gps port output with the gps gauges in gps stats skin .

Please post these skins when you have a chance.

As far as the ports go just go into rrconfig and under the GPS section, choose a free port. That will be the port used for the gauges.

In Xport you should see the available ports, so one free port would be assigned to Roadrunner, as configured in rrconfig, and another would be assigned to destinator.

I have skinned Destinator to work with CDRSkull's Freedrive app, but that was Destinator 5 I believe. There are also skins and images for Phoco. As for Hqct, that should work with the standard radio skin, if you have it set up in RR config I think.

I would LOVE to see the FreeFone skin and Map Monkey skins and images though! I have been wanting to add full support for those, and just have not gotten around to, or had the time to do it lately. you can email me at JohnWPB nospam @ my Gmail.com account.

As for setting up your GPS Gauges screen, this does not matter what GPS program you use, if even if you use one at all. The gauges are done through RR if you have a GPS Com port set up for RR to use. Check the help file under "How do I get the gauges to work". There are full instructions, links and screen captures to get it all set up and working correctly.

Oh and welcome to the forums! You certainly have done a LOT already, being this is just your first post!!!!

John- I was looking at some of your scripts (like for the compass, clock, picture) as I recently overwrote some mods I had made to menu.skin. That made me think about the nightmare you must have trying to maintain everything. The different colors then each of the subdirectories you use for things like the above.

So I got to thinking (yes, that's dangerous) that there has to be a better way. Here's some ideas I came up with:

1) as far as I know, the skin file doesn't change just because you are changing the image. So instead of having complete blue, red, orange, bm skins, why not have a single skin, just multiple jpg's. So a user wouldn't load a new skin to change colors, you would just need a script to copy a color set of images to the skin directory.

2) if the RR language would support it, use variables (in exectbl.ini?) to define the color set. e.g. menu_off.jpg=red_menu_off.jpg Then you wouldn't have to script copying all the jpgs around, just script modifying the ini file.

3) for changing things like digital clock, analog clock, image, etc., rather than replacing the entire skin file (maintenance issue for every change), could you not just modify the skin file on the fly? Use something in a comment line that autoit could search for to replace? Or maybe do that part via variables as well?

If I did my math right, for each menu.skin, you currently have to modify 16 files. So I *think* if you did some of the above, it would make your life a bit easier and allow you more time to implement cool features.

I'm not a developer (last thing I wrote was autoexec.bat if you are old enough to know what that is), so feel free to tell me to bugger off if I'm off base. The 10 developers that work for me are always telling me my ideas won't work, so you won't be the first

That is a good idea, and I am actually doing something similar to that now.

The main problem is, if an image changes, then the skin must be changed as well. For instance replacing a button on the audio screen, with a different one, the skin has also got to be edited to have the correct code that matches that the new button does.

As for when I said I am doing something similar now, it is just in reverse

When I add something to the default blue skin, I then copy EVERYTHING except THE images to the other 3 colors folders. I still however have to create the new graphics for the other 3 colors with the modifications, and save them to the correct skin's folder.

(last thing I wrote was autoexec.bat if you are old enough to know what that is)

Something like:

A few remarks :
1) No matter what I try, the speed gauge in the GPS stats skin keeps saying MPH in stead of KPH (Allthough we like to see KmH). I tried all possible settings, knowing the helpfile allmost out of my head by now ... Is this hard coded in the flash file ? Also same problem with speedfan units; in speedfan correctly configured, but in your skin allways F in stead of C. (will have a closer look in other threads if I find the time)

2) in the CDRip menu I see the actual program comming true ? (I think) I didn't see this before a reinstall of RR and the blue skin.

Keep up the good work. Would love to see the Freefone implemented too ( as a noob programmer)

bug (?):

in main screen w/ digital clock and logo, there is a bar that scrolls across to let you know how far the song is along. in the "player" screen you can touch anywhere along it and jump to that time in the song. but on the main screen it doesn't work

also as you know, the gps gauges are weird. like the pivot point is off. also my MPH was not correct. it is correct in iguidence. perhaps it was because i had "no internationalization" <shrug>

I posted a question in another thread regarding this and never got a repsonse, but my guess is that you can only control song pos on the audio screen.

The audio position is working fine here on the main menu. Being able to touch the bar to change the postition of the song is fickle though. Sometimes even loading the skin into the skin editor and re-saving it causes it to stop working. I recommend opening the audio skin in notepad, and copying the text to the main menu skin.
