Streets & Trips
I talked to him last night. so
2. Always true
Dont worry he is doing well. You may have noticed that I have returned from the abyss so i am helping him out with the posting while hes busy.
Sorry I have been away for a few days! I have installed Vista on my main machine now, and all seems to be going well. (After some cursing, fighting, and getting used to be able to find things that I USED to know where they were!) I let Liquid Smoke install it first, and test it for a while, then got some pointers from him on what to expect heheeh. Thanks for all the help and tips LS!
I just reinstalled Road Runner 100% from scratch, and all went well. I figured this was a good way to see if there were any steps, files or what not that needed to be done that I could have missed here when testing the install on an existing RR folder ect.
Here is what I did, step by step:
1) I downloaded the RR installer and ran it
2) Downloaded the Road Runner.exe beta, and replaced the one from the installer.
3) used RR Config to set up all paths for music, video, GPS ect
4) Downloaded the DigitalFX skin from the same site you guys get it from, and installed it.
5) Opened the Image Viewer.ini file and set the path to my images
6) added the GPS Auto lines to the rr.ini file
7) Opened the screenlock.ini and set my pin number
(The last 3 steps are documented in the help file)
It went smoothly with no errors, and the weather, GPS, Music, video, changing the logo's ect all work correctly.
As for you guys wondering whats going on here with the skin:
I am not sure if I can pull this off, or how easy it will be to convert the skin, but I will let you guys know what I am going to TRY to do.
With the new RR Beta supporting PNG (Transparent images), I am going to try to make ONE skin that you can change to any color. I have not even started to try this out yet, so I don't have any more details at all. I will let you guys know when I know more, and actually start to work on it.
IF (Notice the BIG if ) it all works out, I would like to have a new menu screen with the list of colors on it, selecting one will change the entire skin to that color, on the spot. No more multiple skins for multiple colors!
I am thinking maybe this weekend I will reinstall everything from scratch. Is the easiest way to reinstall just to rename the RoadRunner file under programs and them re run the installer?
Sorry I missed some of the questions in the past few days.
I was completely rebuilding my machine. Its been a couple years since I upgraded it, and felt it was time..
It went something like this:
[BEGIN (SHELLING OUT MONEY)]
I wanted a new processor and motherboard, so set off to Tiger Direct. I was set on a 3.4 Ghz Dual Core Pentium chip. Then looking at the motherboards, they had NONE that had AGP slots on them in the entire store. (a CLERK CONFIRMED THIS) So, this now meant a new GFX Card as well. Done... I THOUGHT! New boards take the DDR2 memory, NOT the DDR memory on my old MB. Ok, now in for 2 gigs of memory, DONE (I THOUGHT again). I got home put it all together, and went to plug in the power as the last step to the mother board. Guess what, Power Plugs on the motherboard are now 24 pin, and not the old 20 pin! So I got back in the car, and went to a local computer shop and got a 500w power supply (Couldn't resist picking up a 300 Gig Serial ATA Hard drive while I was there).
[/END (SHELLING OUT MONEY)]
So, with all the new hardware, and doing a fresh install, I figured I would give Vista a try, and have 90 days to decide to keep it or not) So the last 3 days has been building, and installing all my programs, settings and everything from scratch, and trying to find where the simplest things are located! As an advanced power user, who knew it would take me an HOUR to figure out how to mute the damn microphone! (GONE is the day of double clicking the speaker in the system tray, properties, recording options) It's "Hot" by default, so you know the lovely squeal the speakers can make when you turn the volume up while the mic is active!
Ok, back to the topics at hand.......
The weather cities for the buttons is saved to the skin.ini file in the DigitalFX directory. If they are resetting when you reload RR, then they are not saving to the skin.ini file. If they are not saving to the skin.ini file, you are probably using an older version of Road Runner, as the SAVETOSKINcommand was added about a month ago.
Thanks for your time
