not necessarily ... and I mean no disrespect to John or his very good skin - but if that was the benchmark why are there so many other skins out there ?

Just because a skin has almost every conceivable addin and function does not make it the best skin, lot's of users only want music, GPS and perhaps video - all those other parts rarely if ever get used ...

but that's just my opinion !

Excellent point. I couldn't agree anymore. However, I do wish other skins benchmark john's GPS layout for iguidance... ^^ Not necessary for looks, all buttons are single click driven. I am lazy, plus i am driving ^^

Also touch on minimizing cpu usage. There is a feature in swish max that can tell you how much cpu power certain effects use. This can come in very hand to make the transitions from skin to skin faster. For me this is a key feature.

The best skin is the one that fits the skinners need. I use multiple, some to show off and some for functionality. If you really want to push the RR envelope, design a skin without looking at other skins for ideas (use your own ideas). For me, I like the ability to remove/change buttons, as I don't want buttons that are unused.

Johns skin is written so nicely...things just work. The layout is perfect, icons/buttons wasy to read and locate, its crisp and clean and much more. I agree the skin has to fit the needs but when it comes to building it and such I would follow how someone like John built his skin. I've tried NUMEROUS other skins...LX, Crystal....etc. and non of them compare to Johns...maybe because my CarPC setup has every single option you can push to it, in most cases I'm still waiting on more development to take advantage in to what I have...Johns so far is the only one that touches my needs.

in the end, make it a good skin but dont just be like one of the other 4million skins available

The only reason I do not use DFX is that the buttons move around too much. If nothing else, volume up/down should ALWAYS be in the same place and on every screen!

That being said, as soon as I get my steering wheel controls working for volume again, I will not want volume up/down/mute buttons taking up screen real estate at all.

In any case... in my skin a had a frame that never changed at all. Consistent screen layout is very important to me.

The ability to move, change and rename ICONS. Look at the iphone skin that as an example.

Being from a country that had RHD cars the ability to move the main Icons to the right side of the screen and also simply change the Icons on the main screen.

where are we on this??
